Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India had organized the Global Millets (Shree Anna) Conference on the 18th and 19th of March, 2023. Forty students and four teachers of Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar, attended the conference on 18th March 2023. Around 100 Indian millet exhibitors from different parts of the country and around 100 international buyers from various countries were invited to the Conference. This conference provided an excellent opportunity for trade and networking among the participants. It was a great learning experience for the students.

Global Policymakers’ Conclave

 On 11th March 2023, DEVI Sansthan hosted an online Global Policymakers Conclave on “Disruptive Foundational Literacy and Numeracy.” The event brought together a diverse group of leaders to explore innovative solutions to the crisis of reading, writing, and arithmetic through pedagogical transformation and policy.

The webinar started with a keynote address by Dr. Sunita Gandhi, the founder of DEVI Sansthan. She introduced the idea of disruptive literacy and the aim of the Conclave, which is to gather policymakers from around the world and to address issues related to FLN and its effective implementation. The faculty members of the Mathematics Department of Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar, attended the session.

The policymakers worldwide shared their unique perspectives and regional characteristics, presented their ideas for change regarding Foundational Literacy and Numeracy, and highlighted successful FLN case studies. Additionally, they shared learning about ALfA, a program that accelerates learning for all ages.

Overall, the Conclave webinar by DEVI Sansthan was a thought-provoking and insightful event that provided a platform      for individuals to explore innovative solutions to the crisis of reading, writing, and arithmetic through pedagogical transformation and policy.

International Mother Tongue Day

On the occasion of International Mother Tongue Day, a seminar in collaboration with Hindustani Bhasha Academy was organized by Kirori Mal College, Delhi University, wherein the esteemed speakers spoke about the importance of our mother tongue and its proud usage.     Smt. Meenakshi Arora (TGT-Hindi, HoD) and Smt. Shashi Kharbanda (TGT-Hindi) recited a Hindi poem and were felicitated with a medal and certificate

Khelo India

Farha Zafer of X B secured 2nd position in 1500 mts in Khelo, India. The event was held at Nehru Stadium on 10th March 2023, wherein our students competed with 12 other participants in the U/17 – Girls category.

KRUU Project

Kruu is a project-based learning platform that helps students in high school get future-ready.

A series of workshops were conducted by Kruu mentors from leading universities to help students in their professional development. Two hundred ninety-eight schools participated in this project. The students of classes VI to IX and XI of Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar, also participated.

As a part of the KRUU project, based on the topic “History of Geography,” a project was undertaken based on a story of a girl – Ritu.

The project provided an opportunity to explore new places and find fun places in the neighborhood or any city with their group mates. The students also identified the theme for UP and curated the itinerary for a marvelous experience for their peers.

 A total of around 70 students participated, wherein 42 students got a Certificate of Merit, and six students received a Certificate of Excellence.

Learning Outcomes and Pedagogy (CBSE)

A CPD training workshop on ‘Learning Outcomes and Pedagogy’ was held on 9th March in SPS, Mayur Vihar. Dr. Nishi Phogat, the resource person from CBSE, spoke of 21st-century teachers who must prepare themselves as facilitators and mentors by constantly upgrading themselves. Today, teachers, as well as students, are well-connected to technology and have a lot of learning resources.  The teaching strategy should be the ADDIE- Analyse, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate. She introduced the concept of golden circles to all, explaining the WHY for purpose, HOW for process, and WHAT for the outcome and said that it is essential to set goals and the outcome can be seen only after completing the process. After remedial action, if any student is left behind, the teacher must find the root cause as to why he is not performing.

The Post lunch session continued with Resource Person Ms. Vandana Banga throwing light on how teachers should be empowered with 21st-century skills, tools, and teaching strategies that can be easily integrated and incorporated into their classroom practices.

Photography Competition Organised By TERI

 Aneesh Shukla of class IX B participated in the photography competition organised by TERI, The Energy and Resources Institute. His entry was shortlisted amongst the best 12 out of 700. It is a matter of immense pride for the school that his entry was selected and is now a part of the YCC fourth edition annual calendar published by TERI.

School Sports Day-2022-23

Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar, celebrated its Sports Day for the Juniors on 15th March 2023 amidst great mirth, verve, and camaraderie. The Chief Guest, Sh. Anadi Barua, Former International Football Player who represented our country in the Junior and Senior National Football teams, in his address, appreciated the efforts put in by the school to promote sports. The day’s events comprised the Group Coordination race, Partner Race with Ball, Obstacle Race, Three-legged race, Hurdle Race, and Baton Relay. The prize distribution ceremony began with the distribution of laurels in the form of Certificates and Medals to the winners of the various sports events of the day. It was a day filled with sportsmanship, enthusiasm, and memories to cherish.

Self-Defence Training 2022-23            

Self-Defence training is a life skill that helps girls to be more aware of their surroundings and be prepared for any unexpected happenings. To build self-confidence, boost morale, and stout physical endurance ability, Salwan Public School organized a Self-Defence Training Camp Program for the girls of Class VIIth from 24th February to 10th March 2023.

The girls were trained for mental, emotional,  physical, and self-defence by the Special Police Unit for Women and Children.

Aryabhatta Ganit Challenge 2022

Aryabhata Ganit Challenge is conducted by CBSE and  is conducted in 2 stages:

Level 1- it is a school-level competition wherein students of 8th, 9th, and 10th standards can appear.

Level 2- top three students selected from level 1 appear for level 2.

A total of 153 students of Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar, appeared for the level 1 exam of the Aryabhatta Ganit Challenge 2022. The school has been identified in the top 10 in the Delhi East region for the maximum number of participating students in the first stage of the challenge. Three students of Salwan Public  School, Mayur Vihar- Mohd. Saad (VIII B), Shivansh Upadhayay  (IX B), and Shobit Gulati (X A) appeared for the level 2 competition. They are among the top 100 students in the Delhi region.

Celebration of International Forest Day

Department of Environment, Government of NCT of Delhi celebrated International Forest Day on 21st March 2023 at Yamuna Flood plains in the gracious presence of Honorable Lieutenant Governor, Sh. Vinai Kumar Saxena and Honourable Minister (MoEF and CC), Sh Bhupender Yadav. A number of Principals, HoDs, and the Eco club incharges of Delhi Schools also attended it. The Eco club incharges of Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar, attended the program. The program aimed to arouse awareness about the importance of forests and their vital role in sustaining life on Earth. It also emphasized forest-led services for health and well-being, re-emphasizing the role of forests in mitigating climate risks, purifying our air, and sequestering carbon, among others.

Flower Show at Salwan

“Where flowers bloom, so does hope”…Keeping this in the spirits, Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar, organized a flower show on 15th March 2023 in the school premises. The perfect weather, slow breeze, and splashing green grass were all the ingredients for a perfect flower show. The beauty of petunia, the smell of dahlia, and the eye-catching arrangement of salvia and kalanchoe were just perfect for all the parents and staff members to see what nature holds for us.
