Yoga District Competition

The Salwanians participated in the 4th District Level Yogasana Championship, 2024, held on 28 July 2024 at Knowledge Kingdom Academy School in Delhi. The students took part in different categories.The results are as follows-

Exploring Sustainable Solutions

             Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Combating Climate Change (MGICCC)

On 13 August 2024, students of Class 8 had the opportunity to visit the Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Combating Climate Change (MGICCC) in Bakoli to gain insights into sustainable practices and explore innovative solutions to combat climate change. The objective of the visit was to highlight the critical role everyone plays in addressing environmental challenges.

An interactive session with the learned resource person of the Institute, Mr V Gupta, provided an opportunity for students to discuss climate change and learn about the importance of renewable energy. The day continued with a guided tour of the institute’s facilities, showcasing various sustainable initiatives.

The visit was a great learning experience for the students, offering valuable knowledge about environmental conservation and inspiring them to take action for a greener future. 

Young Singers Excel in Competition

Myra Manzoor and Charvi Gupta of Class VI D from SPS RN showcased their exceptional musical talent at the Alchemy of Rhythm singing competition, held on 09 August , 2024, at G.D. Goenka Public School, Rohini. Their outstanding performance earned them the second position, bringing pride to their school and demonstrating their dedication to the art of music.

Department of Science SDG Showcase

The Department of Science organised an SDG Showcase Activity on the theme ‘Mental Health Education and Awareness’ on 23 August 2024, to highlight the significance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in our lives. The event featured an esteemed panel of the school’s distinguished alumni, who engaged in a Panel Discussion with the students.

The alumni panelists included Mr. Kishlay Jha, a BITS Pilani alumnus, currently pursuing a better future, Ms. Neha Jain, who is pursuing an MBBS at the Government Medical College in Nuh, Haryana, and Ms. Tanya Kapoor, who is pursuing a Masters in Biotechnology at Jawaharlal Nehru University. They provided valuable insights during the discussion, offering guidance to students preparing for their upcoming entrance and CBSE board examinations.

In addition to the panel discussion, the students actively engaged with the alumni, seeking advice on the importance of maintaining good mental health, especially in the context of their academic pressures. The panelists emphasised the need for a balanced approach to studies, self-care, and stress management, underscoring how crucial mental well-being is for achieving academic success and overall personal growth.

The SDG Showcase Activity not only shed light on the vital role of mental health education but also provided students with invaluable insights from accomplished alumni. It was an impactful session that inspired and guided the students toward a healthier and more balanced academic journey.

Author Inspires Young Minds at Salwan

On 22 August 2024, SPS RN had the privilege of hosting a visit from acclaimed author, Kanav Agnihotri, a corporate executive turned storyteller and author. The students of III, IV and V were thrilled to meet the creator of the series The Adventures of Sharkaru and learn about the magical world of story writing.

During the interactive session, Kanav Agnihotri shared the process of crafting a story, from idea generation to publication. The students were fascinated by the author’s experiences and insights into character development, plot building, and the importance of imagination. 

Kanav Agnihotri also introduced the students to his books, reading excerpts and sharing the motivations behind each story. The students were enthralled by the characters and worlds created by the author, and many were inspired to start reading the books. Throughout the session, he encouraged the students to explore their own creativity and writing talents.

Desh aur Hum: 3.0

                               Empowering an Enlightened and Thriving Indian

The National Academy of Direct Taxes, Regional Campus, Delhi, in partnership with Salwan Education Trust, initiated the third edition of the school tax awareness program, Desh aur Hum: 3.0. This initiative aims to create a ‘Sachet and Samridh Bharat’ by organising a series of Orientation Programmes across the nation. These programmes are designed to educate young learners about their responsibilities as citizens. On July 27, 2024, Salwan Public School, Rajendra Nagar, and Bhavan Vidyalaya, Panchkula, jointly hosted an Orientation for the Chandigarh zone. The event witnessed participation from approximately 50 schools from the tri-city area.

In his address, Shri Sushil Dutt Salwan, Chairman Salwan Education Trust, stressed the vital role individuals play in nation-building. The keynote speaker, Smt. Seema Dhankar, IRS, Additional Director of Income Tax, NADT, Regional Campus, Delhi, encouraged students to become conscious, participative, and responsible citizens. This event also marked the launch of a series of pan-India competitions, centered on the importance of tax payment in nation-building. These competitions are expected to draw participation from over 500 schools across various states, fostering a deeper understanding of civic duties among students.

Salwanians make a mark at MUNs

HR MUN – High Commendation

Himank Jain of Class XII brought laurels by participating in the HR MUN-2024, held on the 6th and 7th of August at Hansraj Model School, Punjabi Bagh. His dedication, insightful arguments, and diplomatic skills stood out, making the school proud. 

 

Griffin MUN – Special Mention

Himank Jain of Class XII soared to new heights at the Griffin MUN, hosted by GD Goenka School, Rohini Sector 9, on July 6th and 7th, 2024. His exceptional skills earned him a well-deserved special mention. 

Primary Investiture Ceremony

                 “Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality.”

The Primary Investiture Ceremony for the Academic Session 2024-25 was a remarkable event held on 19 July 2024, in the School Library. This special occasion began with a green welcome for our distinguished alumni, Dr. Tany Chandra and Ms. Priya Keswani, reflecting the school’s dedication to environmental consciousness.

Dr. Chandra and Ms. Keswani shared their invaluable experiences, recounting their journeys and emphasising the importance of kindness, empathy, and compassion in leadership. Their heartfelt words resonated deeply with the audience, inspiring the young minds to embrace these core values.

Following their insightful speeches, the alumni adorned the newly elected Student Council members with ties and badges, symbolising their readiness to take on their new roles with dedication and integrity. The ceremony was a proud moment for the council members, who solemnly pledged to uphold the honour and values of the institution.

The event concluded with an inspiring address by the Headmistress, Ms. Rashi Oberoi. Her words of wisdom and success stories motivated the newly appointed office bearers to chase their dreams with unwavering determination. She emphasised the importance of hard work, perseverance, and the pursuit of excellence, leaving the young leaders with a renewed sense of purpose and confidence.

This ceremony was a beautiful blend of tradition, inspiration, and vision, marking a significant milestone in the journey of our young leaders.

Hunar Mela 2024: A Celebration of Art and Craft

On 13 August 2024, Salwan Public School, Rajendra Nagar, hosted the vibrant ‘Hunar Mela’, in collaboration with the Indian Trust for Rural Heritage and Development. This special event celebrated a rich tapestry of artistic talent and craftsmanship, featuring a diverse array of exhibits such as Santiniketan and Madhubani artwork, Eco Jewellery, Silk Zari, and Kantha fabrics. A highlight of the fair was the showcase of unique creations by blind women from the National Association for the Blind, including rakhis, handbags, decorative items, and baked goods, all crafted with exceptional skill. The success of Hunar Mela was largely due to the dedicated efforts of the school’s HERITAGE CLUB, whose hard work ensured a seamless and engaging experience for attendees. Students and parents left with beautiful handmade items and a deeper appreciation for traditional and contemporary arts, making the event a memorable celebration of heritage and creativity.

HELP – Heartfulness Meditation Session for Students

Salwan Education Trust, in collaboration with Heartfulness Education Trust, introduced the HELP programme mentored by the Team of Heartfulness on 30 July 2024 for the students of classes XI and XII. 

The programme aims on guiding students in developing better communication and mindful relationships, being calm and focused, thereby enhancing better decision-making skills. This 16-week life skills course presented to intermediate students helps in gaining insight into essential life skills through various experiential learning sessions.

The Heartfulness team, led by Mrs. Indira Narayan began this 16-week module with the first mindful session for students of Salwan Public School, Rajendra Nagar. A selected group of 50 students who were facing challenges in their lifestyle habits and academic performance.

The session began with basic interaction with students to understand their concerns about daily life. This was followed by a mindful meditation session that was well-received by students. The session concluded with an interactive session to understand the challenges faced by students during the meditation practice.

Genetics for Gen Z - National Win Recognised by NCERT

Dr. Shilpa Raghuvanshi Chauhan, PGT Biotechnology, has earned national recognition for her innovative teaching pedagogy, “Genetics for Gen Z,” as part of NCERT’s “Promoting Innovative Practices and Experiments in Education for Schools and Teacher Education Institutions” programme. The award ceremony was held on 25-26 July, 2024.

Out of numerous nationwide entries, 42 innovative practices were selected after a thorough evaluation at the Regional Institute of Education and NCERT, with 12 from School Education and 30 from Teacher Education Institutions. Each national winner was awarded a seed money grant of Rs. 10,000. Dr. Shilpa’s pedagogy, which features four in-house designed games that simplify abstract genetics concepts, involved around 200 students from our school. This prestigious accolade highlights her exceptional contribution to innovative teaching practices.

Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam

As part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, students of classes VI-IX were encouraged to plant a sapling in honour of their mothers. 

The campaign was met with enthusiastic participation, with students planting trees in various locations, including gardens and community spaces. 

 This initiative helped raise environmental awareness and brought families together in a meaningful activity. 

The campaign successfully instilled a sense of responsibility towards the environment among the students.

Celebrating AI: Dr. Shilpa Chauhan’s Innovative idea featured in Nai Udaan

Dr. Shilpa Raghuvanshi Chauhan, PGT Biotechnology, has been acknowledged with a cover-page mention in the March 2024 issue of Nai Udaan Science Magazine by the Department of Education. The issue, themed “Artificial Intelligence & Robotics,” showcases exceptional contributions to these rapidly evolving fields.

 

Dr. Shilpa’s article, “Empowering the Visually Challenged Towards National Acclaim in Robotics Innovation,” is celebrated in the “Teacher Innovation” segment for its groundbreaking insights and unwavering dedication to advancing AI and robotics. This recognition underscores her exceptional commitment to leveraging technology’s transformative power in education.

 

Her article highlights the inspiring journey of how robotics and AI have been harnessed to empower visually-challenged individuals, enabling them to achieve national acclaim. This accomplishment not only showcases innovative educational practices but also emphasises the potential of technology to create inclusive opportunities and transform lives.

SPS RN Students Achieve Success in Art Competition

Pragya Kwatra and Arshiya Sachdeva of Class VIII secured the third position in the ‘Sapphire Serenades’ event at the Inter-School Competition held on 10 August 2024, at G.D. Goenka Public School, Rohini. Competing in the Junior Category, the team created a beautiful and colourful paper quilled necklace inspired by Alice in Wonderland, transforming a book cover into wearable art.
