REPORT ON MATHS WORKSHOP: A workshop on Effective Teaching Techniques of Mathematics was organised on 19th November 2011 by Ratnasagar Pvt. Ltd.
 

The Resource Person stressed on the word S U P R E M E to teach Maths, Ms. Aditi Singhal, an international mind and memory trainer. It stands for:

 

          S        Set clear goals

          U        Use of different tools like worksheets, Maths lab equipment, etc.

          P        Puzzles

          R        Reasoning with Practical Approach

          E        Everyday living with Maths

          M       Meditation

          E        Emotional Empowerment

 

She emphasised on the visualisation power of the mind and shared a lot of techniques to improve Maths learning. Games like Tambola were played which can be used in the classroom set up to reinforce the concepts taught (like only addition or subtraction). She gave importance to the use of Vedic Maths for multiplying numbers with 9 series.

 

ASTRONOMER’S VISIT TO SCHOOL: Mr. C.B Devgun, an astronomer from Space India Organization visited our school on 30th September 2011.He showed cool spots in the sun through telescope in the Science Park. These cool spots are low temperature areas in the sun. He cautioned the students not to view the sun directly through telescope during day time as it may burn the retina. Students were very enthusiastic; they asked many questions from Mr. Devgun.

CELEBRATING DHARTI PARV: Celebrated DHARTI PARV from 7th September to 13th September 2011. Students of Classes IV & V participated in “Go Green” drive which involved taking part in tree plantation. The students planted about 50 saplings in C-Block park of Naraina and made posters which read to “Each One, Plant one”.  Herbal plants like Tulsi, Aloevera, Amla, Mint, etc. were also planted to spread the message that plants are very useful for us. Poster making competition was organized on the themes Use of Waste Management & Recycling waste.

 

PLANET KE RAKHWALE CAMPAIGN: One student became participated in Nokia Drive, Planet Ke Rakhwale-take back campaign in the month of September. Students were educated on e-waste and parents were invited to take part in this initiative. They were motivated to give away their old, broken and dead mobile phones and their accessories for recycling. The material obtained from recycling will is to be used to create items like pens, seat benches, jewellery items, etc. Students and parents participated enthusiastically in this campaign.

 

SAVE FOREST: To develop respect, love and care for the environment we organized project “Save Forest”. A skit was enacted by tiny tots to emphasize the need to protect wildlife and our forest. A display of jungle scene, bird house, farm animals and water animals was there in the school foyer. Various theme based art and craft activities were also displayed in an exhibition. 

 

SAY NO TO CRACKERS: “Say no to crackers” campaign was initiated in the school in the month of October. Students prepared posters saying no to crackers. In assembly students were told the ill effects of burning crackers. To motivate the students, various eco-friendly activities like rangoli making, toran making, thali decoration to welcome Goddess Lakshmi, bandhanwar making, candle decoration and diya decoration were organised.  

 

GURUPARV: Omkaar” or God is one. This was the message which was conveyed successfully through Guruparv Assembly. Nurturing the spiritual quotient of students and training them for larger tasks of life was the aim behind celebrating Guru Nanak Dev’s birthday. The children participated in mock “Prabhat Pheri”, “Kaar Seva”, “Jodon ki seva”, “Langar Seva”, etc.
 

This exercise taught them the lessons of humility and serving the community. Guru Nanak Dev’s “saakhis” made them aware of the rich spiritual history of India, the teachings and legacy which the first Guru of Sikhism left for everyone to follow. To lend an authentic touch to the commemoration, “Karah Prashaad” was distributed as a token of sharing and togetherness. The “Aarti” with its candle lighting regime created an aura of a soul awakening event.

 

Gandhi Jayanti special assembly was conducted on 1st October 2011 by Class III students to mark the 142nd birth anniversary of ‘The Father of the Nation’, Mahatma Gandhi. The students were enlightened about the life of Gandhiji through speeches.

A Musical Hindi poem depicted the main events in Gandhiji’s life. Children also enjoyed the message given by Gandhiji’s three monkeys - see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. One student also acted as the second Gandhi of India – Anna Hazare and spoke on his vision about the present and future India.
 

The assembly ended with the a Hindi song “Sabarmati ke Sant” sung by Class III students. Before that the students also danced on the song “Bande mein tha Dum”.

The assembly was a great learning experience for children. They learnt how simplicity and non-violence can really change the world.

 

JANAMASHTAMI ASSEMBLY: A special assembly on Janamashtami was conducted by students of Class II on 19 September, 2011. The children were enlightened about divine acts and thoughts of Lord Krishna. Students of Class II sang bhajans on Lord Krishna which depicted his life and good actions. Girls danced to the tune of Maiyaa Yashoda… to depict Raas Leela of Lord Krishna.
