Training Programmes:

 

 

Students regularly visit the Rajputana Rifles Centre, Delhi Cantt. for a Training cum Motivation programme. The students visit the Museum and Information Centre and learn about the weaponry, equipments, techniques, mode of war, uniform patterns and the ever changing trends in modern warfare.
Environmental Programmes: Environment day celebrations included distribution of over 200 plants among various residents. Also a procession was conducted in the near by colony for awareness towards environment.

5 days trekking trip to Chail & Shimla was organized for the economically weaker students from

20th May 2010 to 25th May 2010.

URI - Pilgrims Of Peace- Many Paths, Same Purpose :

URI (United Religions Initiative) is an internationally recognized Interfaith Network active in 75 countries with its global office in San Francisco, California. The initiative of our school to promote a culture of faith empowered students to build bridges between different communities and religions. A group of enthusiastic students were selected to form a cooperative circle under the umbrella of Salwan URI-CC. Our students have attended URI conferences in Mayapur West Bengal and Cochin , Kerala  in which youth from all over the world participated and deliberated on how to promote the feeling of oneness amongst all irrespective of colour, religion, caste and creed.

 

Community Service:

School runs various programmes for the community. Some of the projects undertaken by the school are:

 Nanhi Chhaan: School has ties with NGO 'Nanhi Chhaan’. This has given the school a new opportunity and direction to link the cause of environment with that of saving the Girl child.

Adoption of Manger Village: In its endeavour to live up to the school motto “Service Before Self”, students and staff have undertaken the responsibility of improving the quality of life of the people of Manger village. Some of the measures taken by school are setting up a library, motivating dropouts to join school, spreading awareness against female foeticide, drug abuse and child marriage. and helping children with their studies.

 Parichay in collaboration with NGO ‘Chintan’: Salwan organized ‘Parichay’-Ek Nayee Shuruaat, a sports meet for the rag-pickers associated with NGO ‘Chintan’ on 18th September 2010. A football match and races were organized where children from Chintan competed with our students.

SAMMAN DIWAS - Promoting Patriotism And Nationalism :

 

 

Samman Diwas provides a platform for the students to honour the ‘Men in Uniform’.  They get an opportunity to learn about their sacrifices made by them and their families.  The soldiers inspire the students by narrating their heroic deeds. Hundreds of jawans, decorated soldiers and war widows are invited for a Maha Bhoj hosted by the students. They are honoured with our token of love and appreciation.
SAMANVAY: Stage Performance promoting a  cultural amalgamation of Indian Classical Music and Dance provides a platform to students to showcase their talent.

 

USTAADGAH Under the guidance of Madame Zila Khan, world renowned Sufi Singer, students have undertaken extensive training in "Sufi " Music. Students have also given performances with Madam Zila Khan.

 

Exchange Programme School has a collaboration with Acton high School, London, Greenford School, Dormerwells School and the Meridien School, UK. The main aim of the programme is to share and promote  Environmental Activities.
Special Education School manages "Learning Centre" to help children with special needs to cope up with the problems faced.
Robotics Lab School has "Robotics Lab" to train students in assembling and programming robots. Advance Training Workshops are also arranged to give exposure to latest advancements in the Robotics Field

Sports Activities

 

 

The School provides Special Coaching in Archery, Basket ball, Martial arts, Volleyball, Cricket, Hockey, Athletics, Yoga, Football, Chess, Skating and Gymnastics.

The Salwan -  Athletic Federation of India (AFI) Athletics Academy is a unique collaboration between two organizations, zealously committed to churning out world-class athletes in field events. The joint enterprise was set up in 2004. The Academy is open to students, above the age of 13 years, from all over India. Athletes identified by the Athletic Federation of India are also trained at the Academy.

 

Eco-Friendly Activities: School plans and executes various eco friendly drives to create awareness among students. Activities undertaken in this aspect are plantation drive, campaigns on Energy Conservation and Yamuna, Water, Energy and Waste management drives, paper Recycling, Rain Water Harvesting ,Anti crackers Campaign, promoting natural Holi colours and  Eco venture Tours.

Community Service Peace Initiative:

School Participated in unique "Peace Initiative" by making students and parents participate in the event. Activities undertaken were:

Eco-Friendly Activities: School is associated with NGO- TSC and Indian Army for annual tree plantation drive in Ridge Area to celebrate Vanmahotsav

Association with TERI Students actively participated in project- Innovative Methods for Introduction of Action Oriented Clean Technology in Schools (IMPACTS) and Sensitization Education and Awareness on Recycling for a Cleaner Habitat (SEARCH)

Educational Exchange Programme:

School has partnership programme with schools in UK under Global Partnership Exchange Programme. As part of this educational exchange programme, the faculty and the students from school get an opportunity to visit and study the culture and education system of the partner school in UK.

 

Community Service:

School’s association  with NGO- Goonj has been a satisfying experience for both students and parents, where old books, notebooks, clothes, etc. are donated for the underprivileged section of the society. The project is also supported by gdSalwan Public School, Rajinder Nagar.

 

Health Awareness Programme

In collaboration with NGO- “Hriday Shan” a workshop on “My Energy Balance” under the “Get Active Programme” was conducted in the school wherein peer leaders of different classes gave a talk on health.

 

Environmental Programme School is nominated as lead school by Department of Environment, New Delhi. Under this programe various workshops are conducted to conserve energy.

(Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) DMRC Project

School has undertaken the project by DMRC to beautify the pillars. Students have made murals of size of 20 ft. x 40 ft. and pasted them on the pillars supporting the track. School has adopted DMRC Pillar No 112 - 136 on Pusa Road, New Delhi. The project is also supported by SPS, Rajinder Nagar (Afternoon) and gd Salwan Public School, Rajinder Nagar. gdSalwan Public School is maintaining greenery from DMRC Pillar No 93 to 111 at Pusa Road, New Delhi

“SAVE”  -initiative to promote environmental awareness was organized by Nursery and KG

classes on 21st Feb 2009. All the classes presented their version on environment through

displaying methods on saving the resources, using CFL’s, recyclable material, car pool etc. and

also showed the adverse effect of pollution on everyone.

School runs a society for individual development. Under this program, Counsellor aims to:

Environmental Programmes:

 

School pathways are lit with solar lights. The school building top is designed in such a way that the rain water drains and gets collected into an underground tank. This water seeps underground and helps to replenish ground water table.

Shangai Expo-2010: School organized educational trip to Shangai, China during second week of August 2010. seven students and two teachers went for the Expo2010 "Better City, Better Life" hence exploring new modes of residing, living and working for people in new century

Exhibitions:

Strokes of Genius: Exhibition  on Early Childhood was organized at Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts from 6 April to 30 April 2010. It was inaugurated by Mrs. Gurumurthy, Academic Director, CBSE

Art Rally: An art rally was organized from 28 September 2010 to 5 October 2010 to promote Common Wealth Games and Mascot  Shera.

Educational Programmes:

Trip to NASA:20 students from school have been nominated for the space centre (NASA) for a 9 day trip in Oct 2010. It is a strong education programme which believes in spacefaring civilization and focusing the enthusiasm of young generation to create a new human race.

Overhualing Maruti 800 and Scooty: Students overhauled Maruti 800 engine  and Scooty and learnt about different parts of an engine and other mechanics.

Aero Modelling Club: An aero Modelling club has been started in year 2010 for designing, building and flying aircraft made by our students from classes VIII and IX.

 Visit to Village: Students visited Phalodi village in Rajasthan in association with Bunker Vikas Samiti. Students interacted with them and learnt a lot about village life.

Redefining Sports Curriculum: Mr. Nigel Bruce Hetherington of UK (Sports Consultant, Head Athelics Coach at Singapore Sports Academy) visited India in the month of April 2010 helped school for devising the Sports Curriculum for all classes. to pursue the above said programme Mr. David Wynn Murrie of Professor of Physical Education, Trainer of International Sports Coaches UK was also invited for further development of the curriculum.

Resource Awareness (DNA) Club

 

Thi

  a   Learning programme organized by Aravalli Foundation Education (AFE) in collaboration with the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. 20 schools from Delhi & Haryana have been selected for this programme.Our school is one of them.

     Activities of DNA Club involves Field trips, Guest lectures by eminent scientists, Institutional visits, Screening of documentaries & films, Experiments and model making, Special projects like setting up of Herbal Nursery.  
 

Interface with Professionals

Parents as Facilitators in the teaching world. Professionals [Parents] in various fields conduct classes once a year in the School on the occasion of our "Foundation Day". Parents share their skills in their specialized areas and impart knowledge to the students through this interface

Web Conferencing

The school has initiated an exciting programme through Video Conferencing. The first session was held on November 13, 2009 between 22 students of our school and the students of Walker Elementary school, Milwaukee, Winconsin, USA. Since then students from our school are in touch with their counterparts in USA and Singapore. This programme is initiated by a student of our school

 

Bal  Bhavan School has been associated to National Bal Bhavan, New Delhi. The aim is to enhance the creative thinking and potential of the children through non-formal educational activities, opportunities and common platform to interact, experiment, create and perform according to their age, aptitude and ability. thus inculcating confidence, self reliance, secular attitude and love for values that, in turn will make our nation stronger.

Under flagship, our school is providing 60 underprivileged children of Chanden Nagar an opportunity to explore and develop their skills through the various activities.

Community Service

Lt. Gen. Dalip Bharadwaj PVSM VSM DG Mech. Forces inaugurated the 16th Blood Donation Camp. Bus with the children, parents and the faculty members with gifts for the soldiers, hand made cards made by the Montessori children of the school was flagged off in 2010.
Inter School Dance Competition

Salwan School hosted ‘Nava Nrityam’, Inter-School Contemporary Dance Competition on 22nd September, 2010 at their school. More than 25  schools from all over Delhi participated and performed with great energy and dynamism. The Chief Guest  Shri Shashadhar Acharya inaugurated the event.
