GOOD MANNERS
MONTH:
The month of July 2011 was celebrated as the “Good Manners Month” to
inculcate good habits. Students were introduced to five magical words
Please, Sorry, Thank You, Welcome and Excuse Me. Smiley stickers were
given to encourage Good manners. Short Moral stories were also
narrated to them. Conversation on Good Manners with MAGIC WORDS was
encouraged. Good Manners Flash Cards were shown.
SPECIAL ASSEMBLIES:
- INDEPENDENCE DAY
GALORE: A
PowerPoint presentation highlighting the importance of Independence
Day accompanied by an interactive question and answer session was the
highlight of the assembly.
- JANAMASHTAMI:
The
highlight of the day was the children’s participation in singing the
song ‘Gokul dham biraj ka wasi, kanha nand kishore’, which depicted
Krishna’s childhood in a very cute manner.
- RAKSHABANDHAN:
The
assembly culminated with a lovely dance performance by the students on
the song “phoolon ka taaron ka sab ka kehna hai”.
17TH BLOOD DONATION
CAMP:
17th Blood Donation Camp was
organized in collaboration with the Army Transfusion Centre, Delhi
Cantt. on 20th
August 2011. The students went to the R & R
Hospital with their
parents & donated various gifts to the patients. The entire Salwan
community- students, staff, faculty, spouses and alumni- donated
blood. The other activities included Cultural Programme by students,
adventure activities & Kite flying for parents, Food Festival for all.

CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE IN ACADEMICS: Salwan Girls Senior Secondary School was felicitated by Salwan
Education Trust for its outstanding performance in academics in class
12th.The increase in the number of First division from XX in the
session 2009-2010 to YY in the session 2010-2011 was a commendable
achievement for an aided school catering to the underprivileged
section of the society.
The Trust presented the school with a brand new ‘CHEVROLET SPARK’, in a
special ceremony. Miss Janak Juneja , retired IAS, trustee and Salwan
Girls Alumni graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. This was indeed a proud day in the history of Salwan Girls Sr. Secondary School.

POLES OF PEACE: Salwan URI Cooperative Circle hosted
the ‘Poles of Peace’ Project in the School. A Delegation from
Japan installed the Peace Pole in the school premises amidst the
chanting of prayers for world peace. The ceremony was followed by
activities and an interactive session on "May peace
prevail on Earth".
SAMMAN DIWAS: To instill a sense of patriotism and
gratitude for the sacrifices made by the Men in Uniform, the school
celebrated ‘Samman Diwas'. Lt. Gen. Ramesh Halgali, SM, DGMT, Army HQ was the Chief Guest.
Jawans of 4/3 Gorkha Regiment, veer naris and decorated soldiers were felicitated on the occasion.
The ceremony was followed by a Maha-Bhoj, hosted by the school
students and parents, for the Jawans.
PARIVARTAN: A Campaign to discourage the use of polybags was organized for 3 days
in the Rajinder Nagar & East Patel Nagar Markets. Students Marshal
presented cloth bags, with the slogan-" I am Eco-friendly, I refuse to
accept polythene bags" in exchange of polythene bags.
AAZADI UTSAV: Aazadi Utsav celebrations in the school grounds . Hon’ble Chief Minister, Ms.Shiela Dixit inaugurated the Azadi Utsav. There was a live performance of Punjabi
sufi singer Hansraj Hans and Sushri Uma Lalla.
ROBOTICS EXHIBITION: Students of the Robotics Club displayed the
Robots created and programmed by them. Various robots like Ball
thrower, Artbot, light sensing Roverbot, Robotic arm, Dancing robot,
amplifier and multivibrator etc. entertained the visitors who visited
the exhibition.
DISASTER MANAGEMENT DRILL: Mock Drill of the whole school
was conducted for evacuating classes in case of a disaster. It was
followed by presentations made by the Fire Department and Police
personnels.
INVESTITURE CEREMONY: Salwan Public School, Rajinder Nagar
invested its new Prefectroial Board for the academic session 2011-2012
in a grand function. The function was held in the school, where Maj. (Retd.)
S.K. Kohli , Director, HRD & Admin., Salwan Education Trust and Chief
Guest for the function , decorated the young leaders.

HERBAL GARDEN: Inauguration of Herbal Garden by NGO, DEEKHSHA, in association with the Department of Environment, Government of NCT, Delhi.
VISIT TO RECYCLING UNIT: As part of the DFID activity 4th & 5th std. students undertook a visit to the recycling unit at the Delhi secretariat.
TREE PLANTATION AT PURANA QUILA: A team of five students accompanied by Ms. Pratima Chawla, participated in the plantation drive organized on July 4, 2011 at purana Quila y the CEE ( Centre for Environment), Ministry of Environment and Forests.
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: Workshop on Sustainable Development was organized on 21st July 2011 . Mr. Lalit Kishor an Architect and an Urban Planner, the resource person from Auroville made the children aware of the perspective need, definition, interlinked issues, challenges, legal aspects, process, tools, emerging research and brands related to creating a sustainable environment for our future generation.
G.D. SALWANIANS EXPLORE THE E-WORLD: Students of classes X and XI visited the Panasonic Concept World , Gurgaon on 25th , 27th and 28th April 2011.
WORKSHOP ON MANAGING E-WASTE: A workshop on Managing E-Waste was organized at on 20th April, 2011.
SMOKE FREE DELHI: A Workshop on Smoke Free Delhi was organized on 1st August 2011.

IMPORTANCE OF ECONOMICS AND CURRENT AFFAIRS: Workshop on ‘Importance of Economics and Current Affairs’ was organized for the students of class X and XI The resource person, discussed the issues of inflation, development, service sector, shrinking role of public sector undertakings and the need to increase productivity to increase the gross domestic product of the country.
GOONJ: Students of class XI visited the processing unit and workshop of “Goonj” an NGO working towards helping the underprivileged. Salwan Junior Public School, Naraina
HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK AND VAN MAHOTSAV: Special assembly for Van Mahotsav was held and various activities such as badge making, poster making, and pamphlet making was done. Planting of saplings was also done. Children of classes IV and V participated in a workshop organized by Nestle India Ltd to promote healthy and nutritive eating.
CYCLE RALLY: To spread the awareness about conservation of environment and preservation of natural resources, a Cycle rally was organized on 25 July 2011 by students of class IV and V.
SCHOOL MAGAZINE: The School Magazine was released on 19th Aug 2011.
INDIAN POSTAL DEPARTMENT: Workshop conducted by Indian Postal Department on stamp collection for student of class V.

STUDENTS COUNCIL ELECTION 2011- 2012: In order to inculcate
democratic spirit among students, school follows election procedure for
electing the student council. Students from classes VI onwards voted for
the Head Boy and Head Girl on an electronic voting system designed by the Computer Faculty.

ID UL FITR: Our school Celebrated Id Ul Fitr on 30th August .Various cultural activities were organised to spread Universal Brotherhood and religious harmony. Chocolates in the form of ‘idi’ were distributed.
QUIZ ON OZONE SCIENCE: To mark the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone layer our students participated in a ‘Quiz on Ozone Science’ and a Skit competition held at India Habitat Centre on 29th August’11. It was organized by the Ministry of Environment & Forests. A model and some posters with slogans for the same competition were also submitted.
