Mock Drill for Disaster Management : Salwan Girls Sr. Sec. School, Old Rajinder Nagar, New Delhi, organized a Mock Drill on 15.02.2012 at 11:30 a.m. for creating awareness amongst the students for dealing with Natural Calamity such as earthquakes. On 14.02.2012 practice of Mock Drill was given to students for the same. In every class, teachers guided the students how to protect themselves with Drop-Cover-Hold policy.

Film Making Workshop : A Film making workshop on Environment was conducted by Mr.Thomas Frick , a German film maker, in the school premises from 11th to 17th January 2012.

Fire Drill : A fire drill was conducted on 24th January, 2012 by the officials of Prasad Nagar Fire Station. It is a regular activity of the curriculum conducted under the Disaster Management Project. The children learned through practical demonstration techniques to use fire fighting equipment of all types.

Trash Festival : A Trash festival with a variety of activities was organized on 24th January 2012 to look closely on waste segregation.

Special Assembly on the occasion of the Republic Day : Nanak House organized Republic Day on 25th January, 2012. The students presented a Talk Show on the formation of Indian Republic. Students were awarded scholarships for excelling in academics. Special Scholarships were also awarded to top scorers in CBSE class X examination in Hindi subject.

Farewell ceremony for class XII : The School bid Adieu to the outgoing batch of 2011-2012 at a function organized at the school grounds on the 28th January. Khwahish Kapoor and Kritija Saxena were given the titles of Mr. Quintessential and Ms. Salwanian Extraordinaire.

Basant Utsav : Basant Utsav was organized in collaboration with Delhi Tourism and Sahitya Kala Parishad at the school grounds on 4th February, 2012.

“ Marks for Sports” Training Camp : A group of 20 students went to SRCC grounds on 5th February, 2012 to participated in NDTV “ Marks for Sports” training camp. Sports stars from field of Rugby, Boxing and Shooting were present on the occasion. These included Sunil Chhetri (Football) and Vijender Singh (Boxing) and also Ranbir Kapoor (Actor and Rugby Enthusiast).

CBSE National Athletic Meet at DPS : Sidharth Bhanot of XI D participated in U/19 boys javelin throw and Sanil Mehta of X B participated in U/16 (4 x 400 m) relay in the CBSE National Athletic Meet at DPS, Meerut was held from 4th -7th January, 2012.

Video-Conferencing with Gray School, UK : A Video-Conferencing class with Gray school,UK was conducted on 6th Feburary 2012.

Traditional Swiss Music workshop : A workshop on traditional Swiss music was conducted by Mr.Nicolas Senn was conducted In the school premises on 21st March 2012.

Pesentation on Environment issues at India Habitat Centre : Our students gave a presentation on environment issues at India Habitat Centre on 28th March 2012. We got the honour of being the Veterans at the CSE-Centre for Science & Environment.

Workshop on Bio-piracy by Navdanya : A Workshop on Bio-piracy by Navdanya held at India International Centre on 4th & 5th April, was attended by our students.

Surya Namaskar on World Health Day : About 1000 students from the primary and the middle wing of Salwan Public School performed Surya Namaskar on the occasion of World Health Day on 7th April 2012.

Talk on Fight against Corruption :  : An interactive session was conducted in school on 10th April 2012, where Mr. Mujeeb was invited to enlighten the students on how to fight against corruption. Mr. Mujeeb has travelled from Jammu & Kashmir to Kanyakumari on cycle spreading the message as to how youth can fight against corruption.

GERMAN CREATIVE WRITING CONTEST: Hosted a “German Creative Writing Contest” in which many reputed schools from Delhi and NCR participated on 14^th December 2011. The renowned jurist will declare the result by the end of January 2012 & the winners will get a scholarship to Germany to attend a Summer Camp and an Advance Level German Language Course in Munich, Germany in the month of June, 2012.

CELEBRATION OF RAKSHA BANDHAN AND INDEPENDENCE DAY: It was a double celebration and an extended weekend for all as Raksha Bandhan and Independence Day was celebrated together. A series of exciting events ensured the enthusiastic participation of all the students on the 12^th of August 2011. Students of the Primary Wing organised a “Show & Tell -Historical Monuments" and spoke about several architectural marvels. In "Fancy Dress- National Leadrers" and it was wonderful to see students dressed as Freedom Fighters & Leaders. An Inter-house Group Dance Competition was the highlight of the programme as the dancers presented a spectacular performance complementing a fusion of songs. Raksha Bandhan was celebrated with Rakhi-Making and Thali Decoration competitions. The students made glittering creations that were attractively displayed in the school.

CELEBRATION OF DIWALI: Festival of Diwali gathered momentum as the students conducted several activities with enthusiasm organised on 23rd October 2011. The students of Classes I and II enacted a play based on Ramayana. The primary school students also made attractive Diwali cards to wish their grandparents. The middle and the senior school students participated in the Inter-House Rangoli-Making Competition. The students also visited an Old-Age Home ‘Gita Vridasharam’ to share the festive spirit with the elderly and seek their blessings.

CELEBRATION OF EID: To celebrate Eid, a special assembly was conducted by the students of Class VI on 5^th November 2011. Students spoke about the evolution of Islam, its principles and teachings. They also shared on how the Holy Book "Quran" came into existence as its verses were revealed to Prophet Mohammad. A beautiful play with the message of living a virtuous life was also presented.

ANNUAL DAY CELEBRATION: The school celebrated its Annual Prize Day on 26th November 2011 to felicitate students who have excelled in academics and various extra co-curricular activities. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Hon’ble Minister of Labour and Industries, Govt. of NCT of Delhi Sh. Ramakant Goswami and the Guest of Honour was Sh. Harpal Singh, Chairman Emeritus, Fortis Healthcare Ltd. The highlight of the evening was the musical “Unfolding Dreams”- the realisation of true potential of today’s generation. The gigantic sets made by the in-house art department, the  colourful costumes, the excellent stage enactment along with the  music and dances and the grand finale with students dancing to the beats of the ‘Waving Flag’, had the audience charged with energy and enthusiasm. The school magazine, “Udita” was also released on this significant occasion.

SOLIDARITEA: Solidaritea was held on 15 December 2011 with great enthusiasm. The children, teachers and the Head of the School participated in a Group Discussion where they shared their views on Faith and what religion means to them. The children later paid a visit to a Blind School to interact with a group of visually-impaired students. It was a moving experience for the students as they conversed with the children who were excited to have visitors.

CHRISTMAS DAY CELEBRATION: With a decorated Christmas tree and Small Santas of Class I, Christmas day was celebrated on 24^th December 2011.Christmas put a smile on every face. The small children dressed in red & white attires gave a dance performance. The school choir sang carols and the programme ended with the distribution of sweets.

 “AAKRITI” AN EXHIBITION ON SCULPTURE & POTTERY

Keeping ART at the core of the school curriculum, our students captured and showcased their artistic endeavours created throughout the year an our exhibition “AAKRITI”  displayed in the school premises from 23^rd February to 20^th March, 2012 for all the educationists, parents, staff, students of neighbouring schools.

Students explored three dimensional artwork created by shaping or combining various materials like store, metal, wood, glass, plastic etc. Woodcarvings, mural, bamboo work, pottery were some of the exhibits on display.  This endeavour has helped our students to explore themselves and the world around them and showcase their individuality, creativity and style.

Art with a message : Class XII students undertook the challenge of redefining the programme of leaving a legacy behind.  The students decided to reach out the community to develop a strong understanding that life is all about caring and sharing… art being a medium to interconnect.

Workshop on climate change mitigation on cool roof was held on 3^rd Feb 2012 at Auditorium Delhi Secretariat, New Delhi. The main purpose of this workshop was to guide students about the project involving ‘3D-modilling of cool roofs’. The facilitator was Mr. Manoj Dabas, Director AFE. He explained the importance of traditional method of constructing cool roofs. Mr. Ravi Ranjan Guru working with ICLEI, South Asia spoke about energy efficiency in India.

Workshop on General tips on How To Study Well conducted by Mr. Bharat Bhushan Gogia (CEO, Renaissance, A sanjivani for civil services). The workshop held on 2^nd Feb 2012 at SPS, Gurgaon. The topic of the workshop was ‘Vision’. The resource person emphasized the importance of setting a goal for oneself and striving hard to achieve it. He taught how to manage time efficiently for fourth coming exams. He shared the message that the spark is within us and we ourselves have to ignite it in order to achieve our goal and taste success.

GPSC 12^th Annual Conference was held on 11^th Feb 2012 at Epicentere, Apparel House, Gurgaon. The theme of the conference was “Agrani”- Taking the lead. Seven teachers from our school attended the conference.

 “Strategic Management & Leadership Programme ” for Principals held From 20^th Feb – 24^th Feb 2012 at Laxman Public School, Hauz Khas Enclave, New Delhi. It is organized by C.B.S.E . One senior teacher from the school attended the workshop.
