- Puppet show
A puppet show was presented by teachers for Nursery students on the story “The Lion and The Mouse”, teaching the young minds to use their knowledge & brain during crisis. The students enjoyed the puppet story session and learnt the golden rules of Life.
- Shoe Polishing Activity
A practical life activity session “How to polish your shoes” was conducted for Nursery students. The purpose of the activity was to make them self-dependent and be neat & clean.
- Story Dramatization
The story "The big hug" was dramatized beautifully by Nursery students. They were dressed in the costumes of different animals with creatively made masks. The children enacted the entire story very confidently and enjoyed the dance in the song I LIKE TO MOVE IT.
Similarly the story of “The little red hen” was enacted by the KG students who used the face masks to depict different farm animals in the story. The message of hard work and sharing was passed on by the choir group which together sang- the little red hen worked so hard.
- Fancy Dress Competition
An Inter-Class Fancy Dress Competition was held for KG and Nursery on 21st and 26th of September 2012 respectively. The theme of the show was FOOD. It included healthy food, junk food and health drinks.
Innovation and creativity flowed in abundance through every costume. Sponge became a burger and cardboard boxes became Frooti and Horlicks. Paper was amazingly used to create larger than life costumes of fruits, vegetables and health drinks. The Grapes costume was the height of creativity where balloons replaced the actual grapes. Children also put in a lot of hard work to learn the perfect expression and the message they wanted to convey. Though the forms of expression varied, the message was loud and clear “Eat healthy, live healthy”. It was a great show enjoyed and loved by all.
- Rhymes & Story telling- Exploring channels of communication
In order to provide maximum learning experiences throughout the year, teachers look for opportunitites to incorporate activities that promote language skills. Recitation of any kind, be it show & tell, fancy dress, rhymes or stories, opens up channels of communication and stimulates emotional, imaginative and linguistic development. It encourages participation and develops confidence and a sense of self-esteem. The journey begins with speaking within the four walls of their classroom for their classmates to speaking in front of other children in the assembly. As they build up their confidence, inter-class competitions are organized where they put in their best foot forward. Judges from other schools are invited to judge the event. With this starter pack they are ready to face any stage with confidence.
- Calligraphy Competition
Students of Nursery and KG took active part in calligraphy competition.Teachers encouraged the students to write the given lines in their beautiful hand writing. Best five enteries from each class were selected by the class teachers and given for jugdement. Such competitions are a successful way to make students realise the importance of good writing.

- Samman Diwas & Release Of E-Magazine: To instill in the students pride and deep patriotism for their Motherland as well as gratitude for those who fight with valour, the school honoured the brave soldiers on Samman Diwas on 18th August 2012. A Blood Donation Camp was also organised. The school launched its first e-magazine, celebrating Delhi’s Centenary as the Capital City.
- “ALGOZA”: Students had the pleasure of listening to Mr. Steev Kindwald, an Eminent Flutist of European origin. He has mastered the art of double flute instrument “ALGOZA” through circular breathing technique. Students and teachers from sister Salwan Institutions also attended the lecture demonstration. He also answered queries of students related to the nuances of playing the flute.
- International Conference on ICT Culture in Education: The teacher representatives Mrs. Garima Chawla and Mrs. Sangeeta Walecha (PRTs) attended a conference organised by Educational Technology and Management Technology & NAVTIKA at India International Centre, New Delhi. The main speaker was Prof. Marmar Mukhopadhyay (Director, ETMA). The Welcome Address was delivered by Dr. Indu Khetarpal (Editor -Navtika, Member ETMA Council).

- National Physical Laboratory: A group of 40 students of Class XI A along with Mr. Anis Kumar Das (P.G.T - CHEMISTRY) & Mr. Shashank Vohra (PGT - MATHEMATICS) visited NATIONAL PHYSICAL LABORATORY at NPL Pusa. The students observed various research & development programmes in different scientific fields.
- United Art Fair: A group of 16 students along with Shri. Arup Biswas (P.G.T - ART) visited UNITED ART FAIR on 29th September, 2012 at Pragati Madan. The students observed about 2500 works of sculpture & paintings, graphics, insulation arts, video art, etc presented by about 600 young and contemporary artists as well as master artists. This visit aimed at promoting and developing the aesthetic skills of the students.
- EDUCATIONAL EXCURSION TO BHARATPUR BIRD SANCTUARY, AGRA & FATEHPUR SIKRI: A group of 57 students from Primary and Secondary Classes accompanied by six teachers went on an educational excursion to Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, Agra and Fatehpur Sikri.
- Annual Day “Shunya Se Anant Tak”: The school celebrated its Annual Day “Shunya Se Anant Tak”. The occasion also celebrated the indomitable spirit, courage and commitment of their Founder Father Late Pt. Girdhari Lal Salwan on his 111th Birth Anniversary. Smt. Krishna Tirath, Minister of Women & Child Development (Independent Charge) graced the occasion with her presence as the Chief Guest.
- Two students Rishabh Lohia (Class XII) and Manav Bansal (Class XI) and a teacher Ms. Mala Kapoor, working under the Youthinkgreen Environmental Project along with climate ambassadors from other nations including Namibia, Brazil, Germany, participated in the Conference of Youth 8 from 22nd Nov 2012 to 25th Nov 2012 and Conference of Parties 18 from 26th Nov 2012 to 30th Nov 2012 held at Doha. Youthinkgreen is an international educational and environmental initiative that aims to train today’s youth in different parts of the globe to face the core environmental challenges of our time- global sustainability, climate change and environmental protection. Youthinkgreen has offered our students the opportunity to work as climate ambassadors to seek practical solutions for facing global challenges pro-actively, creatively and critically by ‘thinking globally and acting locally’.
- Ms. Rama Vaidyanathan performed at an event organized in association with SPICMACAY -The Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture among Youth. The event was held in the School Auditorium on 24th November 2012. She gave a lecture demonstration on Bharatnatyam to the students. She explained various aspects of the ancient dance form through beautiful expressions.
- Rasmus Sievers: Rasmus Sievers, an eminent Cinematographer and Director from Germany visited the school. He shot a film encapsulating the highlights of the mega event Green Mela based on Community Outreach aimed at spreading awareness about adopting sustainable lifestyles. The short film will be screened at schools of many countries that are a part of Youthinkgreen project namely Turkey, Bulgaria, Italy, Brazil, China, Egypt and Germany.

- Tree Plantation Drive: The School organized (Vanmahotsav) a Tree Plantation Drive on 11th August 2012 at Rajputana Rifles, Ridge Road along with teachers, students and parents. It was organized to facilitate environmental awareness among the students as well as the parents. Everyone participated with great enthusiasm and fervor in planting trees.

Teachers’ Training Program by Centre for Environment Education(CEE): One day Teacher Training Program was organized on 1st Sept’12 by Centre for Environment Education (CEE) under Paryavaran Mitra Program.
The complete workshop was an eye-opener .It truly helped the teachers to not only deeply imbibe the true impact of climate change and importance of biodiversity conservation but also to sensitize the students and guide them for its cause at the basic level.
- Visit to National Crafts Museum : As an extension activity of monument conservation adopted by the school, the students of class IV have taken the theme ‘Forest Dwellers’. The Students were taken to craft Museum, Pragati Maidan on 21st September 2012 to get an insight into tribal culture and lifestyle and to gather the first hand information from the forest dwellers.

- Aravalli Biodiversity Park :
Students of Class VI visited Aravalli Biodiversity Park, Vasant Vihar on
27th November’12 to study the concept of biodiversity. The park aims at the conservation and preservation of ecosystems of the two major landforms of Delhi, the river Yamuna and the Aravalli hills. Students got the facts and figures about the Biodiversity Park through their resource person. They could get glimpses of various birds in their locality, learnt about various medicinal plants and rearing of various species of the plants. They appreciated the biodiversity conserved there.
- Christmas celebration- Christmas was celebrated with joy and enthusiasm on 24th December 2012 where children sang Carols and performance dances. Life of Jesus Christ was also enacted by the students. A street play ‘Jago Grahak Jago’ was done on the same day under Heritage education programme.

- 7th August 2012:School Evacuation Mock Drill
Maintaining its practice of following the safety routine, a mock evacuation drill, was conducted by the students under the supervision of the school staff and the Principal, on 7th August 2012 at 3.00 p.m. The purpose was to establish a systematic safe, orderly and quick evacuation of the premises in the event of a fire or any other emergency. Students, along with teachers filed out of the school building, on hearing the sound of the hooter. They followed the planned exit routes. The teachers took a roll call at the assembly point, to ensure that all students had reached safely. This drill sensitised the students to actively participate in preparing their class, parents, peers etc for disaster management. For the safety of the students and others, it is important to regularly practice such drills. This would help in enhancing the level of emergency preparedness in schools.
- IIHM Young Chef India 2012 : Raghav Khosla of XII-B participated in the annual IIHM Young Chef Competition 2012. On 18th August 2012 over a hundred schools from North India contested in this exciting cooking competition wherein each student was required to cook unique yet tasty dishes to suit the interests of the respected judges. The shortlisted candidates will be chosen for a trip to London to face the final round. The winner will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 5,00,000. We have the best hopes for Raghav!

- A Research Project On The Effectivity Of Lemon Grass As An Insect Repellent
Lemon grass is a clumping grass that forms mounding tufts. It can be grown from seed or by clump division. In a warm, tropical environment, it can reach 9 feet tall. Lemon grass is an effective mosquito repellent, according to a study by K. Karunamoorthi et al., at the College of Public Health & Medical Sciences, Jimma University, Jimma, Ethiopia. Its high safety, both for the user and the environment, combined with proven effectiveness make lemon grass an appealing alternative to commercial insecticides.
Finding the above research environment friendly SPS A has taken up the initiative of making school campus insect/mosquito free .The school has also taken it up as a research project where the students actively participated in planting the 50 lemon grass saplings in the fountain area which becomes the breeding ground for mosquitoes during the monsoons, due to accumulation of water in the well. The students constantly monitor the affectivity of the lemon grass by keeping a check on the insect population in the fountain area.
- Be the wind beneath the wings - Design for change : Design to Change-an international initiative, aims to tap the gen-next who are the true future flag bearers of the world. Salwan Public School Afternoon took part in their “School Challenge” Programme wherein schools across the world shared stories by their students about expressing their ideas and actions for a better world. The school team comprising Ms. Latha Ramachandra,Ms Monica Handa and students of Class VIII partnered with a Government-aided neighbourhood school to discuss about peer problems and find solutions.
- Videoconference with Face to Faith Partner Schools : The students of classes IX-X had an interactive video conference on the theme-Compassion with their Face To Faith Partner schools , TheGurukul and DAV Rohini on October 17, 2012. The multipoint videoconference on the Common Word Module, engaged the students actively and they contributed confidently to dialogue, exhibiting some good dialogue skills (particularly in terms of building upon one another's points of view).
- Orientation Programme On ‘World Diabetic Day’ : An orientation workshop was held for the students and teachers on 9th November in lieu of ‘World Diabetic Day’. The students are provided with manuals which contain questionnaires and different games on health. The students will conduct the same workshop for their class-mates to spread awareness about the disease and adopt healthy eating habits .The teachers manuals are also provided by the NGO ‘HRIDAY’ and ‘Arogya world’.
- 'Rang Divine'at Salwan Afternoon - A Spectacular Extravaganza : The school celebrated its Annual Day to award students who had excelled in academics and various extra co-curricular activities. The Chief Guest, Hon’ble Union Urban Development Minister, Govt. of NCT of Delhi, Sh. Ajay Maken, felicitated the student achievers and encouraged them to work consistently and achieve their goals. The Guest of Honour, Sh. Paramjit Khanna, Secretary, Salwan Education Trust, applauded the efforts of the students and motivated them to fulfil their dreams. The highlight of the event was the musical “Rang Divine”- a mystical evolution of the great historical Bhakti and Sufi movements. The gigantic sets made by the in-house art department, the theatrical colourful costumes, the excellent stage enactment supplemented with cyclorama, music and dances mesmerized everyone. The Art Exhibition showcased the artistic aptitude of the students. The programme rose to a final crescendo with a grand finale, resplendent with sparkling fireworks and ended with the National Anthem.

- Grandparents day Celebrations (Class KG)
To instill in our children love and respect for our elders, Grandparents Day was celebrated in kindergarten on 1st August 2012. Children made beautiful tulip cards for their grandparents and offered them with all the love they have for them.
Grandparents were called to school to spend time with children in the KG classes. They narrated stories to the children, recited rhymes with them and discussed rainy season, encouraged healthy habits and shared the combined anecdotes of preparations for the upcoming Raksha Bandhan festival.
- Hindi Diwas :
Salwan Junior Public School, paid its tribute to the national language of India- Hindi, by celebrating Hindi Diwas on 14th August 2012. The students, dressed up in their regional attire presented a cricket match to show how their national language brings them all together on the same platform.
The students also enthusiastically presented a small skit on “Hindi Vyakaran”

- Exhibition- PANDORA “The Image Carnival” : Good art is nothing but a replica of the perfection of God and a reflection of His art. And what better way to do it than through children.
Salwan Junior Public School presented a vibrant mix of art with culture on Saturday, 6th October 2012: through an Exhibition- “PANDORA: the image carnival 2012.”
The entire school was engulfed with glittering elements of rich Indian heritage and culture shown through folk art and craft by our young Salwanians.
Hand painted Warli art T-shirts with beautiful bandhanwars, tastefully decorated dandiya sticks, wrapping papers and earthen pots captured everyone’s eyes.
Handmade file covers, bookmarks, variety of travelogues highlighted the eclectic mix of creativity and imagination. Tiny tots also showed their ability to play with ideas by way of geometrically designed table mats, wall hangings and carefully crafted jewellery- boxes.

Wizard of BIZ : The School organised a Commerce Fest ‘Wizard of BIZ ‘ in the month of October. 35 schools participated in the event. They competed in the activities such as Book Cover designing, Career Expo and Advertisements.

- International Conference on ICT culture in Education: Navtika in collaboration with ETMA organized a three day workshop on ICT Culture in Education at India International Center, New Delhi. From 27th – 29th September, 2012. It focused on use of ICT in many spheres of Education such as ODL, ECCE, Higher Education, Special education.
- NASA : On December 26th2012 a group of 10 students and 2 teachers, Mr Pankaj Gupta from SPS, Gurgaon and Mrs. Sunita Madan from SPS , Rajinder Nagar undertook a 10 day excursion to the United States including a 3 day long Space Trek Programme at the Kennedy Space centre, Orlando, Florida.
They attended a workshop on Robotics and also designed & launched a rocket. They met astronaut James F. Reilly, who had gone on a mission to repair Hubble's Telescope in May 2009. They also visited the Sea World where they had an opportunity to see rare species of the sea world. The visit to the museum of Natural History was very enriching. The itinerary also included a visit to Madame Tussad's Museum, The Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, Times Square and Rockfeller Center.

- Bharat Ki Ek Mahakatha : The school celebrated its Annual Day On 1st and 2nd December 2012. On the occasion a musical interpretation of the Epic ‘Mahabharat’ was staged. The chief guests for the occasion were the renowned author Shri. Gurucharan Das, Prof. Dinesh Singh, Vice Chancellor, University of Delhi and Mr. Ashok Kumar, CEO, The Indian High School, Dubai. The dance drama was appreciated by the guests for its elaborate sets, costumes and acting skills of the students. A publication titled ‘Jayasamhita- Ek Drishtikon’ was released to commemorate the event.
- Student Education Cultural Exchange Programme: Exchange Programmes with The King's School (Goa), The Choice School (Kochi) and KCPPS (Singapore) were organised. Buddy classes, Co-curricular activities, project work and exciting visits were organized for the teams that arrived from their respective schools.
- Workshop For Parent: Photoshop Workshop for parents of classes VI to XII was organized by Computer science faculty on the PTM day. All the parents were very satisfied and appreciated the workshop.

- Workshop on Language Development – The School conducted a workshop for Class KG on Saturday on 22nd Dec. 2012. The speaker Ms. Savitri, emphasized on the ECCE which focused on the overall development of the children (age group 3-6 years). She focused on the Play Way method, for skills of language development which helps the young learner of Primary Grade.
- Three day Workshop on Good Touch Bad Touch was organized on 22nd, 24th and 26th Dec. 2012 in School Premises. Ms. Poornima (Counselor) explained about Good Touch by Parents and strangers and Bad Touch by people which is considered as confused touch. In addition to that she told students what to do and how to react if they face any bad touch and whom to tell about the same.
- A very interactive and enriching workshop on ‘Creativity & Aesthetic Values’ was conducted by Sushila Devi Polytechnic, Ghaziabad on 29th Dec. 2012. Dr. Savitri Devi, from CBSE, was the presenter of the workshop who told the participants about activities such as group dance, flash card swapping activity and individual presentation to develop the aesthetic sense of learners. Picturisation of Images along with composition was the limelight of the workshop.

- Child Protection Committee organized a talk by the Director and Principal of the School on 27th December 2012 for the Male Staff to sensitise them towards the need to respect women.
- Visit to RajGhat : As a true tribute to India’s great historical treasures, the Salwanians have recently formed "The Crusaders' Club" with the students of classes IX and X.
The club, in its first endeavour, arranged two heritage walks, one to RajGhat and the second to the Old Fort on 23rd Nov. 2012 along with all the club members accompanied by the two teachers Mr. Yogesh Kumar Sharma and Ms. Snigdha Adak.
These walks were extremely informative.
- Visit to Career Fair
Salwan Public School, Tronica City took a group of 8 students of class X to the Career Jamboree organized in association with Centre for Career Development (CCD), New Delhi, at Gurukul - The School, Ghaziabad on 21st Dec. 2012 to provide the students a better understanding of the careers/courses/institutes available for them in the near future.
- Athletic Meet : SPS, Tronica City organized CBSE Cluster III East Zone Athletic Meet for Girls on its lush green track from 22nd – 24th October 2012. 75 Schools participated in this meet Honourable Chairman, CBSE Sh. Vineet Joshi and Smt. Veera Gupta, Secretary CBSE graced the occasion by their presence. The meet ended with Sufi Dance, Song on girl child and feats of Aerobics in the presence of the dignitaries including MS. Seema Antil, Common Wealth Games Medalist. Shivani Khari of Class IX from our School made a mark by winning a Bronze Medal in Shot put.
- Visit to Orphanage : A visit to Emmanuel Sewa Ashrama, an Orphanage, at Village Kutty, Ghaziabad was arranged for the students on 8th September 2012. Stationery items and other eatables were donated. It was an eye opener for the children.

- Hasya Kavita Vachan- The quote ‘Laughter is the best medicine’ was promoted by organising hasya kavita where children of all the classes recited funny rhymes in their melodious voices. The event was organised on 25th September 2012.
- Presentation- Pet Animals and Farm Animals - Children presented an informative skit on pet and farm animals on 26 Noember 2012. Children were told about the benefits of rearing healthy farm animals. They depicted the importance of these animals and their uses by staging a story. The teachers also presented a skit on ‘Chimpu’s Confectionery Shop’ and a puppet show on ‘The Ginger Bread Man’
- Tree Plantation: on 17th December 2012 Children planted Ashoka Trees with the help of the teachers and the gardener in the neighbourhood park in the presence of the President of the Resident Welfare Association. They learnt that to save the earth they need to save the trees and plant new ones too!!
- Celebration- Winter Carnival – A grand winter carnival was organised on 24th December 2012 with games stalls put up by the teachers and the parents, rides and food. The highlight of the carnival was the ‘Wish Tree’ which gave gifts to all the children. The carnival was enjoyed and appreciated by the children and the parents.
