Clay Moulding Competition: Rakhi Creations by Nursery Students
On Friday, 16 August 2024, Nursery students enthusiastically participated in a special clay moulding competition, where they crafted beautiful Rakhis with clay to celebrate the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. The little ones showcased their creativity and fine motor skills as they moulded the clay into various Rakhi designs, using bright and vibrant colour combinations.
The finished Rakhis were beautifully displayed in trays, adding a festive touch to the competition. It was a joy to witness the students’ excitement and involvement in the activity. This hands-on experience not only nurtured their artistic abilities, but also brought immense happiness as they proudly displayed their creations.
Parent’s Workshop on Combating Cyber Crimes

Salwan Junior School organised a workshop on ‘Combating Cyber Crimes: An Overview on Financial & Reputational Damage’ for the parents of all classes, on Saturday, 24 August 2024.
The professional workshop was conducted by a member of the parent community, Dr. Stuti Narula Markan, Program Co-ordinator, and faculty member at MERI Professional and Law Institute. She is a dedicated parent and an expert on cyber-crimes.
The speaker addressed the basic issues of how people browse and casually use the internet and its facilities to engage in everyday routines. She mentioned fraudulent activities like phishing, identity theft, hacking and data usage, investment fraud, identity theft, and so on.
The session concluded with safety tips and tricks which the speaker reiterated from her experiences, and with sharing of experiences which happen a lot due to our negligence and oversharing.
Exciting Day at TingaLand: A Memorable Indoor Play Area Excursion
On Friday, 02 August 2024, nursery and kindergarten students embarked on a delightful excursion to Tingaland, an indoor play area designed to offer a fun and stimulating environment for young children. The day was filled with laughter, learning, and loads of excitement as our little ones explored the vibrant play zones.
TingaLand provided the perfect backdrop for our students to engage in various physical activities, promoting their motor skills and social interaction. The indoor play area featured an array of attractions, including slides, ball pits, climbing structures, and imaginative play zones. Our students navigated through tunnels, conquered obstacle courses, and enjoyed the thrill of the giant slides. It was heartwarming to see their faces light up with joy and enthusiasm as they explored each section.
Safety is our top priority, and Tingaland ensured a secure environment with padded play areas and attentive staff. Our teachers and support staff were present throughout the excursion, supervising the children and assisting them when needed. The well-structured play zones allowed the children to play freely while ensuring their safety.
After a morning of energetic play, the children were treated to a delicious array of refreshments. They enjoyed oreo, chocolate, sandwiches, frooti, and chips, which provided the perfect fuel to keep their energy levels high. The snacks were a big hit among the students, adding to the overall enjoyment of the day.
Beyond the fun, the excursion offered valuable learning experiences. The children practiced sharing, cooperation, and problem-solving as they played together. The imaginative play zones stimulated their creativity, while the physical activities helped develop their gross motor skills. It was a day of holistic learning, wrapped in the guise of play.
Understanding Good Touch and Bad Touch
A workshop on ‘Good Touch, Bad Touch’ was recently conducted in our school for students of Class Nursery to I, aiming to sensitise young minds about personal safety. The session, led by our in-house teachers, was designed to make children aware of the importance of understanding boundaries and recognizing safe and unsafe situations.
Children were seated in a circle, creating an open and comfortable environment that encouraged them to listen and participate. The teachers began by explaining the concepts of danger and safety in a simple, age-appropriate manner. They used relatable examples and stories to help the children understand the difference between good touch, which makes them feel safe and loved, and bad touch, which is uncomfortable and alarming.
Through interactive discussions and visual aids, the teachers emphasised the importance of speaking up and telling a trusted adult if they ever feel unsafe. The children were taught the key safety rules: saying ‘No’, running away from danger, and telling an adult they trust. The session was engaging and informative, with the teachers ensuring that each child grasped the essential concepts.
The workshop concluded with a question-and-answer session where students were encouraged to share their thoughts and ask questions. The initiative was a significant step in empowering our young students with the knowledge they need to protect themselves, laying a strong foundation for their safety and well-being.
Parent’s Workshop 0n Fostering Love for Reading
“A book is a gift you can open again and again, yet you will find something new every time.”
Salwan Junior School organised a workshop on ‘fostering a love for reading’ for the parents of classes II-V on Saturday, 03 August 2024 on a virtual platform. It was preceded by the renowned author and educationist Ms. Amrit Nagpal. The resource person is an acclaimed storyteller, a teacher trainer, and a mentor who has not only helped in establishing Montessori schools but has also carved a niche for herself in authoring books for foundational years of learning.
She commenced the session with the importance of reading in the early years with a focus on brain development and how relevant it is to establish neural connections with sight words, colours, and bold pictures which help in strengthening reading skills in later years.
Highlighting the key aspects of the benefits of reading to developing the personality, and boosting the confidence of the learners to work intrinsically in the brain and cognitive functions, she made the audience aware of all possible impacts on young learners.
Ms. Nagpal also shared different books and suggested readings of national and international authors as per the targeted age group, which made the parents more active, aware, and interested in the session! It was intriguing to know about multiple books from different authors, genres, and languages that can cater to brain development in all age groups.
It was an enriching session that proved to be productive for not only students but also for parents, teachers, and adults. The queries from the parents at the end showed their interest and curiosity to build up the love for reading and showing interest in books, by the children.
The author proved that a book is like a garden, carried in our pocket. There is more treasure in the books than in any treasure box!
‘I Am a Chef’ Class Competition
The ‘I Am a Chef’ activity, conducted on Friday, 23 August 2024, was a delightful event that allowed students to explore the world of cooking through fireless recipes. Dressed as little chefs, the students brought the kitchen to the classroom, showcasing their culinary creativity and enthusiasm.
Each student came prepared with all the necessary ingredients from home, ready to create their chosen recipes. The emphasis was on fireless cooking, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for the young chefs. As they prepared their dishes, teachers guided them in understanding the nutritional value of the ingredients they used, fostering an early appreciation for healthy eating.
Presentation was a key focus of the activity, as students learned that how a dish is presented can be just as important as how it tastes. Through this, they gained an understanding of the effort and care that goes into making food not only delicious but also visually appealing.
After the cooking session, students shared their creations with their classmates, enjoying the fruits of their labour together. This experience also taught them the importance of appreciating the efforts of those who prepare food, whether at home or elsewhere.
Independence Day: Special Assembly
“Celebrate the spirit of patriotism on Independence Day… Remember, honor, and salute all those who have laid their lives for the country.”
The school was filled with excitement and patriotic fervour as students, teachers, and parents gathered to celebrate the 78th Independence Day of our great nation, on Wednesday, 14 August 2024.
The special assembly began with the little Salwanians warmly welcoming our esteemed guests, Honourable Chairman Sir, Shri Michael Dias, and respected Director Sir, Shri J.N. Chopra, who were led along a tricolor-adorned pathway to the school. This was followed by the ceremonial hoisting of the National Flag and the singing of the National Anthem. The Guests of Honour, parents of Atharv Khullar (Nursery B) and Nivanya Vaid (KG B), were graciously welcomed by the School Headmistress, Mrs. Sonia Wadhwa.
The event commenced with the powerful tunes of the orchestra, setting the stage for an unforgettable morning. The stirring rendition of ‘Vande Mataram’ resonated through the air, filling everyone present with pride and reverence. The Head Boy then delivered a moving speech that paid tribute to the courageous freedom fighters and soldiers who selflessly fought for our country’s independence.
He emphasised the role of students in upholding the values and principles championed by these heroes. Next, the choir captivated the audience with a medley of soul-stirring patriotic songs, including ‘Badhte Chalo – Rukna Nahin’ and ‘Dharti Ka Abhimaan Hamara Hindustan’ celebrating the spirit of our nation. The assembly took a creative turn with an enlightening role play by students of Class V, who presented powerful ideas and thoughts.
They vividly portrayed the remarkable visionaries of our freedom struggle, dressed as Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Bose, Tilak, Nehru, and Azad, proudly carrying forward the dreams of our brave hearts. The classical dance group’s enchanting performance of ‘Vande Mataram’ evoked a deep sense of national pride and left everyone in awe. The sports display was equally captivating, showcasing the students’ physical abilities and discipline. The demonstration of Yoga asanas and Surya Namaskar emphasised the significance of a healthy mind and body. The gymnasts, skaters, and aerobics performers wowed the audience with their breathtaking stunts, while the young Zumba dancers, martial artists, and Judo players displayed their strength and determination. In his address, School Chairman Shri Michael Dias congratulated and appreciated the students for putting up an excellent show.
He emphasised the importance of acquiring knowledge and building confidence to become valuable contributors to the nation’s development. He encouraged the students to be responsible citizens and to positively impact society. The assembly concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Nehru House Captain, expressing gratitude to all participants, organizers, and attendees for making the event a tremendous success.
The entire gathering joined in singing a heartfelt patriotic song, reflecting the unity and love for the country that permeated the atmosphere. As the Independence Day Special Assembly drew to a close, the echoes of celebration and unity lingered, inspiring everyone to continue striving for a brighter future for our beloved nation.
Janmashtami Special Assembly by Nursery Class
On the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami, on 23 August 2024, the students of Nursery Class came together to celebrate with great enthusiasm and devotion. Dressed as Radha and Krishna, the little ones filled the school with joy and festivity. To help the children understand the significance of the festival, their teacher narrated the story of Lord Krishna’s birth through an engaging video. In addition, the children were guided to visit a temple on Friday, 26 August 2024, to deepen their understanding of the festival’s traditions and rituals. The assembly was further enlivened by the children singing devotional songs, bhajans, and dancing to Janmashtami tunes. They also recited a special rhyme dedicated to Lord Krishna. A highlight of the celebration was when the children had the opportunity to swing the cradle (julla) of the little Nand Lala, adding a heartfelt touch to the festival atmosphere in the school. As part of the Janmashtami celebrations, the children enthusiastically made crowns and beautifully coloured and decorated matkis during the craft activity. The excitement continued with a fun-filled Dahi Handi activity, where the children enjoyed the traditional game associated with Lord Krishna. The event was a beautiful blend of learning and celebration, leaving the children with cherished memories of Janmashtami.
Rakhi Assembly by Students of Class I
Rakhi: A thread of love, a bond of trust, a promise to protect.
On Friday, 16 August 2024 students of Class I presented a vibrant Rakhi assembly, blending tradition with eco-friendliness. They presented a beautiful skit on strengthening sibling bonds, promoting cultural heritage, and fostering protection and explaining the importance of tree plantation (Vriksha Bandhan).
The program included a choir performance, singing heartfelt songs about sibling love. The young performers then showcased a mesmerising dance routine, highlighting the importance of nurturing trees. The highlight of the assembly was the Vriksha Bandhan ceremony, where students tied rakhi threads around the stems of tiny plants, symbolising the bond between humans and nature.
Talent Hunt Round
The school recently organized a thrilling ‘Talent Hunt Event’ for students from Grade II to V on Friday, 16 August 2024, and Grade – I on Tuesday, 20 August 2024. The competition comprised categories of dancing and singing. The event aimed to uncover the hidden talents of our young students and provide a platform for them to showcase their skills.
A panel of judges comprising parents, graciously volunteered their time to evaluate the performances. Although not experts in music or dance, they brought their enthusiasm and support, judging the participants on their overall performance, creativity, and enjoyment.
Show & Tell on National Symbols
In celebration of Independence Day week, the school hosted a vibrant competition for the students of class Nursery and KG a ‘Show & Tell’ Competition on Monday, 12 August 2024, where students showcased their knowledge and enthusiasm for national symbols. Children came dressed as various national symbols, bringing props and demonstrating their speaking skills. The event aimed to enhance the students’ public speaking skills and their knowledge about our country’s symbols. The competition highlighted their awareness of national symbols and their confidence in presenting them. The event was a lively and educational experience, with participants engaging enthusiastically and displaying a deep understanding of their country’s heritage.
