Former Trustees
Late Maj. Gen. J.K. Kapoor (Retd.)
“Great Leaders don’t set out to be a leader… they set out to make a difference. It’s never about the role-always about the goal.”
A thoughtful leader, magnetic persona, kind heart and a smile shining bright- that’s how we remember late Maj. Gen. J.K. Kapoor (Retd.). A compassionate person with a strong personality, he was one of the trustees of Salwan Education Trust and the Chairman of some of the Salwan Schools. He was associated with Salwan Schools with utmost dedication for about 15 years lending his unremitting support.
As a Trustee, General Kapoor was highly involved in the growth of the schools. He always supported new ideas and was progressive thinking, which was well reflected in his innovative style of working and guiding the employees and even encouraging the colleagues to think ‘outside the box’. He selflessly rendered support to all the students and teachers in reaching out to the community at large.
Under his guidance, Salwan Junior School, Naraina collaborated with a neighbouring school under MCD, Naraina. This led to a new era of exchange programme between the two schools. The students got the opportunity to collaborate with the children of MCD school by arranging story telling sessions, communication programmes, art lessons- all headed by the children and guided by the teachers. The initiative saw positive changes in the attitude and behaviour of the participating children. They were highly motivated to carry out such programmes on their own.
Motivated by Gen. Kapoor, the Music faculty of SJS, Naraina was able to release their first ever audio resource of musical- mathematical tables, a wonderful and a unique way of learning tables by infusing music with maths- reflecting their creativity and innovation. It is worth mentioning that Salwan Girls Senior Secondary School, Rajendra Nagar benefited with Sir’s endeavours of sharing resources with other sister schools.
A vigorous learner, Gen Kapoor was always ahead in adopting the latest in the technology. He was keen on learning to operate all gadgets independently and was a regular learner in the IT class.
Gen. Kapoor advocated progress and growth in the students and staff. He ensured that the students had the latest facilities of learning. A patient listener, a loving and caring individual, he was always a strong pillar for one and all.
General Kapoor was and will be reminisced as an individual with brightness in his personality, optimism in his blood and positivity in his character. An ardent advocate of learning by doing and a supporter of new ideas, he often motivated the staff saying : ‘Keep up with the good work, success shall not be left behind.’His favourite lines were: ‘ Give a man a fish, he eats for a day; teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime.’
Always in our fond memories…. Maj. General Kapoor
