A three-hour orientation program was conducted by the CBSE on 12 April 2023 at Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar. It was to enable the schools to undertake the continual process of self-assessment against School Quality Assessment and Assurance on the SARAS portal. Smt. Kalpana Kapoor, Edupreneur, Mentor and Leadership coach conducted the session. The same was attended by Capt. Richa Sharma Katyal, Principal, Ms. Bhawna Puri, Vice Principal and Ms. Neeta Bansal, CBSE coordinator. To acquire the approval for the extension of the school affiliation, it is mandatory for the school to go for self-assessment on the SQAA framework which is a set of standards and best practices as paradigms for attaining individual and institutional excellence. The program was a fruitful session that will help schools to go through the rigorous process of self-audit and reflection, build on their strengths and work on the areas that need attention.

Visit to Indian Aviation Academy

17 students from class XII of Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar along with Ms. Seema Nagpal (PGT, Physics) attended the second edition of EAMRO Conference on 22 April 2023. EAMRO is an International Conference on Civil Aviation committed to addressing the Emerging Trends in Aviation Maintenance Repair Overhaul Industry in a global context. 

The conference was hosted by Aviakul Group of Companies at Indian Aviation Academy (A joint venture between Airports Authority of India (AAI), Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS)), New Delhi. Shri Vaibhav Varun, Managing Director, Aviakul welcomed the distinguished guests (Lt. Gen. Ajay Kumar Suri, Dr. Sudhir Kumar Mishra, Air Marshal Sukchain Singh, Shri RP Kashyap) and budding pilots and engineering participants.

The first Panel Discussion focused on “Need of Convergence of Civil and Defence in MRO Industry”. Setting up the MRO industry is a necessity and it requires significant investment in infrastructure and technology for which collaboration between the public and private sector is needed.

The second keynote lecture was on “Women in Aviation” by Dr Harpreet A De Singh. She urged female students to give up the feminine card to hard work and consider themselves equal to men.

The third session was based on “Preparing future MRO Workforce”. Dr Sundararaj, Professor & Head, (BIHER) informed the gathering that though our country has large pool of engineering talent, but still MRO sector faces lot of challenges and it is expected that one lac jobs will be created in MRO and preparing future workforce will require lot of investments in training programmes.

Lastly, the panel discussion was on the theme “Digital MRO : Are we ready? After the pandemic led downturn, digitization of operations and focussing more on process automation will be key drivers for MRO’s industry’s return to profitable growth.

Students participated enthusiastically in the questionnaire. It was really an interesting and enriching learning experience for both students and teachers.

Technovation Challenge

Technovation Challenge is an entrepreneurship and technology program that aims to inspire girls and young women between the ages of 10 and 18 to become leaders and innovators. The program seeks to reduce the technological gender gap that currently exists.

On 19 April 2023, Team Salwan Innovators of Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar developed an adoption plan and presented their idea to venture capitalists for the chance to have their application professionally redeveloped and globally distributed. Registered girls identified problems for mental anxiety due to work/peer/societal pressure and created a unique and innovative mobile app prototype “Be Positive” to address problems related to it.

“Be Positive” aims to support the community by providing them help through various features of the app like Chatbot, Relaxation music, games and stories.

Team members- Abhilasha Chaudhary and Aishwarya S. Rathore of class X, Khushi Gaur of class IX, Swasti Mangal and Urvi Jain of class XI, learnt team work, acquired interpersonal skills and developed ways to communicate ideas and translate them into entrepreneurship model. 

Sitaare Zameen Par: Photographs of Bombay Cine Stars From the Golden ERA

The Hindustan Times in association with Kiran Nadar Museum of Art had invited the students of Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar to witness an ongoing exhibition titled “Sitaare Zameen Par: Portrait Photographs of Bombay Cine stars from the Golden Era” by Shri. J.H. Thakker, at Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, Noida on 15 March 2023. The exhibition offered a unique opportunity for students to experience and learn about the history and culture of India through art. The exhibition featured vintage photographs of iconic Bollywood stars from the golden era of the Bombay film industry, captured by the renowned photographer Shri. J. H. Thakker. To enhance students’ learning experience, an interactive session was conducted which provided insights into the exhibitions’ themes and artworks. Students also drew and painted the portraits of cine stars of the Golden Era and enjoyed the activity.

‘Mann Ki Baat’ Program

‘Mann Ki Baat’ is a monthly radio program by our Honourable PM Shri Narendra Modi, where he interacts with citizens of India on themes and concerns that matter to the Nation.

Hon’ble PM of India has been addressing the citizens of India through his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program since 03 October 2014 on various issues and ideas of national importance.

The 100th episode of Mann Ki Baat went on air on 30 April 2023. MyGov.  invited citizens of the country to share their ideas for the same.

Students of classes IX-XII of Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar posted the following ideas for the 100th episode on the online portal of MyGov. which they wished to be addressed by our Hon’ble Prime Minister:

‘Is technology making us more distant than concerned about people, women and children safety, mental health challenges of the students, energy crisis’. 

Kaizen Festival

Kaizen is a social extravaganza with exciting competitions, spectacular workshops, and keynote lectures. ‘The Social Sawaal’, a quizzing event for school students, was the flagship event at Kaizen 2023 organised by IIT Delhi on 1 April 2023 at the campus of IIT Delhi where young minds were encouraged to become aware of the social aspects of humanity and compete against the brightest minds in the NCR region. 

Two teams of three students each from Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar participated in the festival.

 Team 1 Social Sawaal – received the first prize in the audience round.

Team 2 Ingenious Geeks – secured the second position.

India-Russia Space Dialogue 2023

The science department of the school arranged an educational visit to the Russian Centre of Science and Culture, New Delhi, for the class XII Science stream students. The program was open to students who were interested in space and aviation. Nine students of Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar along with their teacher Ms. Seema Nagpal (PGT, Physics) visited the centre for the said program on 15 April 2023. Starting with the first Indian unmanned satellite (Aryabhatta) in 1975 to ending with the sending of the first Indian into space (Rakesh Sharma) aboard the Soyuz T-11 in 1984, India-Russia cooperation has achieved high results. The program aimed at celebrating 75 years of India-Russia Space Cooperation, learning from the history of collaboration and preparing a roadmap for both countries to unite their efforts to make a new leap in space. Students grasped a lot about space programs and opportunities to explore the avenue.  It was an enriching experience for the participants.

Heritage Walk - Visit To Humayun Tomb and Purana Qila

Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar organised a ‘Heritage Walk’ on 15 April 2023 for the students of class VII to experience the marvellous architecture of two major sites of the Mughal era-The Humayun Tomb and The Purana Qila in the heart of Delhi. The Humayun Tomb has been declared a world heritage site. It is an excellent example of symmetry and a blend of Mughal and Persian architecture. The Purana Qila is the fort where the Mughal emperor Humayun died in 1554 A.D. The intricate designs and carvings on the walls have their own stories to tell. Most of these sites are maintained by The Archaeological Survey of India. It was an effort to enlighten the students about the historical significance of the tomb and its architectural splendour. They were also given an insight into the difference between a tomb and a mosque.

Festival Of Innovation And Entrepreneurship (Fine) –2023

“Curiosity and spirit of enquiry are essential for finding out solutions to challenging problems.”

Keeping the vision in mind, a group of 61 students from classes VIII and IX of Salwan Public School, Trans Delhi Signature City and Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar along with two teachers-Ms. Swati Prabhakar (PGT-Science) and Ms. Neelima Goel (TGT- Computer Science) got an opportunity to witness the Festival of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (FINE) –2023 at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on 12 April 2023. The program opened gates for innovators and entrepreneurs across the nation to bond over and disseminate their innovations and ideas, not just with other innovators but the entire nation. Through the mega exhibition, the students understood that these innovations can positively impact fields such as agriculture, rural development, sanitation, health, women and child development, biotechnology and medicine.

Climate Clock Assembly And Display Event At Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium

The Energy Swaraj Foundation and the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog, Government of India, CSIR, and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) organised an event called ‘The Global Climate Clock Assembly and Display’ on 22nd April 2023 for students of classes VIII-XI. The event aimed to promote climate change mitigation among the general public. The Energy Swaraj Foundation created a simple and easy-to-assemble DIY Climate Clock kit, and twenty-four students of Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar participated and successfully assembled the digital climate clock within the given time. The digital clocks are used to monitor the time remaining (six years to a few days) until average global temperatures rise 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels, with the date being calculated based on global emission data. At the event, 559 climate clocks were assembled by 7,000 people and 3,000 organizations and the event entered the ‘Asia Book of Records’. The event helped raise awareness about climate change and encourage people to adopt more environmentally friendly behaviours and lifestyles.

Breakaway Session on the Occasion of Civil Services Day

A team of eight teachers from Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar attended the Breakaway Session on the occasion of Civil Services Day, at Vigyan Bhavan, Delhi on 20 April 2023.It was organised by the Ministry of Education, Department of School Education and Literacy. The theme of the session was ‘Improving Quality of Education- Improving Outcome through Vidya Samiksha Kendras’.

The expert panellists and some of the eminent guests were: Shri Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Education, Smt. L.S Changsan, Additional Secretary, School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Department of School Education & Literacy, among many more. Various stakeholders like KVS, NVS, CBSE, CIET/ NCERT and teachers in massive numbers were also part of the session.

Shri Sanjay Kumar who presided over the convention, mentioned the importance of digitising the monitoring and tracking of learning outcomes through Vidya Samiksha Kendras (VSK) which was set up in Gujarat. Thereafter, Shri Sunny Singh spoke about the initiatives undertaken by him in his district to improve learning levels for children in the remote areas of Changlang district in Arunachal Pradesh. Shri Anurag Behar touched upon some very crucial points such as teacher capacity building, strategic implementation of NEP, and real-time monitoring via VSK.

The programme concluded with a Question-Answer session and it was an enriching and an insightful session for all educators to ponder and reflect upon.
