The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) took a significant step in line with the progressive vision outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020 by organizing a two-day National Summit on Facilitating School to Work Transition. The landmark event took place on September 19th and 20th, 2023, at the prestigious ICAR Auditorium, located on Library Avenue in Pusa, New Delhi. The summit served as a remarkable platform for the students to display their innovative projects, creative skills, and entrepreneurial ideas aimed at empowering Indian youth.
Salwan Public School, Gurugram, seized this exceptional opportunity to exhibit two remarkable projects selected for the summit:
Project 1: The Gravity Battery: The Gravity Battery is a groundbreaking and environmentally friendly energy storage solution designed to harness the potential of gravity for energy storage and release. This ingenious system capitalizes on the principles of gravitational potential energy through a straightforward yet highly effective design. It involves the lifting of substantial weights, such as rocks or concrete blocks, to a specific height, thereby storing potential energy. This stored energy can be converted into electrical power when required, providing a sustainable and renewable energy source.
Project 2: Art Integration: Our project, titled Conserving Traditional Art Forms and Building Entrepreneurial Skills, demonstrated how visual art can serve as a unique canvas for cultivating entrepreneurial skills and transcending conventional business methodologies. Traditional educational approaches often segregate subjects, overlooking the potential constructive collaboration between the arts and academics. The project addressed the critical challenge of integrating various art forms with the core subjects in education, offering innovative solutions to this compelling issue.
Our participation in the CBSE Skills Expo 2023 surpassed our expectations, generating an overwhelmingly positive response. Our exhibition stall witnessed a steady stream of visitors throughout the event. Attendees expressed genuine interest in our projects and skill demonstrations. Many lauded our commitment to sustainability, preservation of traditional arts, and our proficiency in various skill-based subjects.
Environmental Stewardship: Blue Nudge Initiative
In keeping with the ideals set forth by the National Education Policy of 2020, which underscores the significance of instilling values like environmental conservation as part of a regular educational regimen, Salwan Public School has embarked on a transformative journey. Recognizing the importance of including Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) aimed at saving and conserving the environment, the school has initiated “Blue Nudge,” an impactful programme in collaboration with Blue Planet Organization, aimed at influencing positive behavioral changes among its students. This initiative emphasizes the critical importance of waste segregation at its source, with the goal of reshaping societal attitudes toward responsible waste management.
Salwan Public School proudly presents the “Waste to Wealth (W2W)” drive, focusing on paper waste collection, encompassing newspapers, magazines, books, and notebooks. Our recycling unit transforms these materials into valuable resources.
Participation in W2W educates students about the importance of recycling. It reduces environmental burdens and enhances society. By joining, students and families help combat landfill growth, tackling waste at its source.
The school offers free study modules for every 5 kg or more of paper waste submitted. These modules educate on environmental stewardship, recycling methods, and responsible waste management. Additionally, the top three student contributors (those who collect the most waste) will be awarded gold, silver and medals.
In the first cycle, the school collected 570 kgs of paper waste. This reflects the dedication of our community in creating a sustainable future. The school’s target is to collect 5000 kgs of paper waste. To reach this goal, the school is contributing its own paper waste to the association.
The ‘Blue Nudge’ initiative molds responsible citizens who safeguard the environment. Together, we turn waste into wealth, paving the way for a brighter, sustainable future.
