Salwan Safety Brigade – SPS Rajender Nagar, organized an initiative to raise awareness and encourage parents to wear helmets while dropping off their children.
Ensuring the safety of students is a top priority for our school, and a critical aspect of this is promoting safe practices for parents who drop off their children on two-wheelers. Motorcycle and scooter riders are particularly vulnerable on the road, and wearing a helmet is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of injury in case of an accident.
Initiative Description:
Objective: The idea was conceptualized in the month of August with a two thronged approach
- Decongesting the school approach lanes
- Driver safety
Launch of the Driver Safety Campaign
To raise awareness among two-wheel riders about the importance of wearing a helmet while dropping off their children at school and encourage them to take a safety pledge.
To partner with the parent community as volunteer Marshals for a collective voice
Approach:
Team Deployment: A dedicated team of school staff members and Grand Parent volunteers stood outside the school gate during the morning drop-off hours.
Identification of Non-Compliance: The team actively identified parents who were not wearing helmets while dropping off their children.
Safety Pledge: Parents who were identified as not wearing helmets were approached by our team and encouraged to take a safety pledge committing to wear a helmet while riding a two-wheeler. A pledge form was distributed, and parents were invited to sign it.
Safety Messages: The school team held placards with safety messages, emphasizing the importance of wearing helmets. These messages included statements such as “Your Safety Matters,” “Protect Yourself and Your Child,” and “Helmets Save Lives.”
Applause for Compliance: To acknowledge and appreciate parents who were already wearing helmets, the school team enthusiastically clapped and cheered as they entered the school premises.
Results and Impact:
The initiative yielded significant results:
Increased Awareness: Many parents who were previously aware of the importance of wearing a helmet but lax on compliance now have a better understanding of its significance, both for their own safety and that of their child.
Safety Pledges: A significant number of non-compliant parents took the safety pledge, demonstrating their commitment to adopting safer practices.
Positive Reinforcement: The applause and appreciation given to riders who were wearing helmets served as a positive reinforcement mechanism, encouraging more parents to comply with the safety norms.
Community Engagement: The initiative fostered a sense of community engagement and responsibility, emphasizing that safety is a shared responsibility.

By raising awareness, encouraging safety pledges, and providing positive reinforcement, we have taken significant steps towards creating a safer environment for our students and their families. We are committed to continuing and expanding such initiatives to ensure the well-being of our school community.

Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign on “Swachh Bharat Diwas”
‘Ek Tareekh Ek Ghanta Ek Saath’ :”Cleanliness is not next to Godliness. It is Godliness.” – Mahatma Gandhi SPS, Gurugram marked Gandhi Jayanti with a special “Ek Tareekh Ek Ghanta” (One Date, One Hour) cleanliness drive on October 1, 2023, aligning with the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ The event, actively led by Principal Ms. Rashmi Malik, saw the active participation of students, teachers, parents, and community members.
The cleanliness drive commenced at 9:30 AM and extended for one and a half hours. The drive featured students energetically chanting slogans to raise awareness about the importance of cleanliness. Their efforts were dedicated to cleaning the vicinity and ensuring proper waste disposal.
This endeavor left a notable impression on both students and the community, nurturing a heightened sense of responsibility towards upholding cleanliness standards. Salwan Public School remains steadfast in its commitment to organizing similar initiatives in the future, further advocating for a clean and hygienic environment.
In an inspiring display of commitment towards a cleaner India under “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign on “Swachh Bharat Diwas”, SPS, Ghaziabad made a significant contribution. Teachers led a cleanliness drive while students educated locals on hygiene. They also crafted compelling posters and slogans. The day concluded with the entire school taking the government-initiated “Cleanliness Pledge”.
Cleanliness Drive: To inculcate the spirit of cleanliness, SPS MV, in collaboration with Directorate General, CRPF, had organized a Cleanliness Drive on 01 October 2023. Twenty-nine students from grade IV to grade IX along with two teachers, Ms Manvi Shukla and Ms Sushmita Saha had participated in this drive wherein they assisted the CRPF jawans to clean the adjoining Smriti Van Park. Students felt extremely delighted in participating and cleaning their surroundings. The CRPF officials praised and thanked everyone in making this Abhyan a great success.
SPS MV – In accordance with the notification from the Department of Education, the National Deworming Campaign was implemented in Delhi from 10 October 2023 to 17 October 2023. SPS MV conducted the deworming campaign on 17 October 2023. During the campaign, a single dose of chewable tab “Albendazole” 400 mg was administered to only those students from classes I to XII who had their parents’ consent. A total of 558 students received a dose of deworming medicine during the campaign. No adverse effects were observed among the students who took the medicine.
SPS MV – Karm Scholarship-Orientation Program: KARM Trust is a registered public charitable trust. It endeavors to work on society’s most pressing issues, especially in the areas of education, health, and gender equality. Through innovative and carefully designed programs, KARM Trust aims to broaden the awareness and respond to issues affecting women. With some of their initiatives, the Trust hopes to empower them with opportunities to pursue their dreams and build capability in local communities. To impart more valuable information, KARM Trust imparted an online orientation programme for the girl students of class XII on 16 October 2023 and 17 October 2023. The girl students of SPS MV registered themselves and attended the programme.
Mental Health Week: SPS MV aims to create awareness about mental health and well-being among students, teachers, parents, and community members. To achieve this objective, a series of activities were conducted from 04 October 2023 to 10 October 2023, in all classes of Primary and Senior Wings. These included making Positivity Boards, Poster Making, Slogan writing, Yoga, Meditation, Sports activity, Storytelling, Mental Health Talk, etc. Through these activities students were able to develop a better understanding of mental health, learn coping strategies and foster positive relationships.
National Cyber Awareness Month by Delhi Police: In observance of National Cyber Awareness Month, the Cyber Crime Unit, IFSO, Special Cell, Delhi Police, invited students from SPS MV, Delhi NCR to participate in a Cyber Awareness Workshop cum Open Competition for school students at their Cyber Crime Unit Cell, IFSO -Dwarka. Twenty students (10 each from classes IX and XI) of SPS MV attended the programme on 14 October 2023. This student-oriented initiative will help the students to think beyond the situation at hand so they can train their peer group responsibly in the field of cyber awareness and security, thereby inviting a better cyber hygiene culture in school. Based on their performance, five students have been selected as Cyber Warriors of Delhi Police to spread Cyber Awareness in School Premises. Students visited Cyber Forensic Lab and explored various Cyber Threats. They will later be awarded a Community Policing Certificate from the Cyber Crime Unit, IFSO, Special Cell, Delhi Police after successful completion of their activities and involvement. Overall, it was an enriching and thrilling session for all students. The selected students were given Cyber Warrior-Community Policing-Certificates by Delhi Police.
Parent engagement for a sustainable choice: The Millet Recipe Competition at SMS Gurugram on 07th October 2023 was a flavourful journey into the world of healthy eating. Parents showcased their culinary skills, focusing on millet-based recipes. Millets, hailed for their nutrition, took the spotlight, making the event educational and delicious.
Participants meticulously prepared and presented dishes like millet sweets – Millet kheer, Millet khichdi millet snacks and many more. They explained the nutritional benefits of millets and emphasized their role in a balanced diet. Tasting session allowed everyone to savour these wholesome creations. This competition not only promoted healthy eating habits but also fostered a sense of community, as parents and teachers’ bond over the joy of discovering the versatility of millets in the kitchen. It’s a deliciously informative event that encourage the families to embrace millets in their daily meals.
Exhibiting Sustainable Human Behaviour: Salwan Montessori School, as part of our sustainability initiative, recently joined hands with BSG, a global organization dedicated to making the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) a reality, for their ‘Say No to Plastic’ campaign. This international NGO has set a target to collect and recycle 25 tonnes of plastic waste to combat plastic menace. Our school did the plastic drive from 2nd Oct to 9th October, and we conducted various activities to educate our students and parents on the importance of recycling, with the aim of driving behaviour change towards plastic use.
The school collected 170 kgs of plastic, exceeding the initial target of 100 kgs by a huge margin. It was truly inspiring to witness the immense enthusiasm and excitement of the young ones as well as the support from our partnering parents, as they joined hands to contribute to this significant movement of plastic collection by contributing 1 kg of plastic per family.
