“Empowering the less fortunate through innovative solutions defines the true essence of compassionate progress.”
Dr. Shilpa Raghuvanshi Chauhan, PGT Biotechnology at Salwan Public School, Rajendra Nagar formulated an ingenious solution to aid Navya Sharma, a visually impaired student, who struggled to independently pair socks and gloves. Dr Chauhan devised a creative solution. Her innovation, aimed at assisting Navya, was registered for the Inspire Manak Award 2021, a platform created by India’s Department of Science & Technology to nurture innovation in young minds.
The “Sock Pairing Project” employs AI and machine vision to determine weight and color match, beeping upon a correct pair identification. This cost-effective solution fosters independence and social inclusion for the visually impaired. Remarkably, the project secured a position at the State level, representing only 1% of all submissions, and is set to represent Delhi nationally in October 2023. Its commendable journey includes accolades from an esteemed panel at IIT Delhi’s Inspire Manak Mentorship Program in August 2023. Furthermore, the National Innovation Foundation-India (NIF-INDIA) saw its potential for wider application, with Scientist G, Mr. Mahesh Patel, envisioning its ascent to a commercial platform.
