First CBSE Expression Series

The 1st Expression Series for the academic session 2024-2025 was organised by CBSE, from 07 May 2024 to 30 June 2024, on the theme NEP 2020 – ‘A Vision for Developed India’. Students of classes III to XII were encouraged to participate in the Essay, Slogan, Poem Writing, and Painting activities. This initiative helped not only to bring out the creative and artistic skills of the students but also helped to trigger the students’ thought process.

106th Birth Anniversary of Nelson Mandela

106th Birth Anniversary of Nelson Mandela Conference: “The Art Of Forgiveness And Reconciliation: Lessons From Madiba”

On 18 July 2024, SPS MV honoured Nelson Mandela’s 106th birth anniversary with a conference titled “The Art of Forgiveness and Reconciliation: Lessons from Madiba” at Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti. The event featured Shri Vijay Goel, Dr. Kavita Sharma, Mr. H.E. Cedrik C. Crowley, and Dr. A. Yaruingam, Professor of African Studies. Esteemed guests and participants discussed Mandela’s legacy, emphasizing his commitment to forgiveness and reconciliation. Keynote addresses highlighted the relevance of Mandela’s principles in today’s world, stimulating enriching discussions on peace and unity. The event focussed on the enduring impact of Mandela’s teachings and the importance of continuing his legacy.

Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam – 2024

To mark four years of the National Education Policy 2020, the Ministry of Education organized the ‘Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam – 2024’ at the Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantt. on 29 July 2024. Smt. Bhawna Puri, Vice Principal, and Smt. Meenakshi Arora, TGT Hindi from SPS MV, attended the event.

The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Dr. Sukanta Majumdar and Shri Jayant Chaudhary. Sh. Govind Jaiswal discussed integrating APAAR ID with ERP solutions and its significance. New NEP initiatives were launched, including a career guidance book, the National Mentoring Mission, and primers in Braille and audiobooks.

A session on sustainability in the education curriculum featured insights from Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar, Prof. Rangan Banerjee, and Shri Vikas Rastogi, who introduced PM SHRI. The post-lunch session covered the role of HEIs in promoting STEM and increasing GER through Vidyashakti. Panelists discussed curriculum and assessment equivalence across school boards.

The final session, led by Prof. Rajnish Kumar and Dr. S. Vaidhyasubramaniam, focused on the role of ranking and accreditation in enhancing quality. The seminar concluded with a presentation on the NCF-FS and NCF-SE implementation roadmap. The event was highly informative and thought-provoking.

Inauguration of The State-of-The-Art Stem Lab

SPSMV held the inauguration of the state-of-the-art STEM Lab held on Saturday, 06 July 2024.  The ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Shri Bharat Salhotra, Chairperson SPS MV, who inaugurated the lab. Maj Gen Ajay Khandpur, Director, Capt Richa Sharma Katyal (Retd), Principal and notable Managing Committee members attended the same. Guests were impressed by the lab’s facilities, including all-in-one computers, a 3D printer, and advanced STEM equipment. Shivika Pratap Singh, student of Class IX welcomed the guests and highlighted students’ achievements. Presentations of STEM projects, such as a Bionic Arm and Smart City, showcased students’ impressive innovation. The event concluded with praise for the students’ efforts and a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Online Webinar On Principal Pioneers

On Wednesday, 03 July 2024, CBSE conducted an online webinar titled ‘Principal Pioneers: Charting New Territories in Career Counselling for CBSE High Schools.’ Capt Richa Sharma Katyal, Principal and Dr. Preeti Jain, School Counsellor from SPS MV attended the session, which featured an esteemed panel of educators and thought leaders, namely Mr. Anil Shasan, – Founder of IC3, Ashwin Shri Nelin – Co-Founder of True Samir Aurora – Vice Principal, Shiv Nadar School, Anita Panker – Director of the Centre for International Education, Symbiosis International University, Pune and Dr. John – Professor of Leadership and School Transformation, School of Education, University of Newcastle, Australia.

The webinar aimed to redefine career and college counselling by emphasising its importance beyond psychometric testing and college applications. Highlighting the necessity to move from traditional educational approaches to dynamic models, the event underscored preparing students for future challenges through research, design, and development. Panelists discussed themes such as adaptability, innovation, and the central role of counselling in improving academic engagement and fostering climate consciousness. The session concluded with a call to action for educators to adopt inclusive decision-making, transform pedagogical approaches, and integrate comprehensive career guidance programs.

Orientation Programme on Organ Donation

To commemorate ‘Indian Organ Donation Day’ on 03 August 2024, the Organ Retrieval Banking Organisation (ORBO) at AIIMS, organised a series of events at SPS MV, that focused on educating and inspiring school children about the significance of organ donation. The event featured a presentation on organ donation, including videos to educate and inspire students.

The highlight of the event was the Poster Making and Pebble Art competitions, which saw enthusiastic participation from students of classes IX, X, and XI. The competitions aimed to raise awareness and encourage students to become advocates for organ donation. The winners of two competitions will be selected and later felicitated at a special ceremony that is scheduled to be held on 20 August 2024, at AIIMS.

Overall, the event was an eye-opener for all those who attended as it successfully highlighted the importance of organ donation and inspired students to take an active role in advocating for this noble cause.

Salwan Education Trust Felicitation Ceremony

The Felicitation Ceremony, held on Saturday, 13 July 2024, at IHC, Lodi Road and organised by Salwan Education Trust, was a prestigious event celebrating outstanding achievers across all Salwan school branches in academics and sports for the session 2023-2024. Esteemed alumni and teachers associated with the institution were also honoured. From SPS MV, the alumni felicitated were Dr. Nitish Kumar, from batch 2011, a beacon of excellence in medicine, working as a Senior Resident in Anaesthesiology, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine at UCMS, and Dr. Shivanya Singh, from the batch 2013, for her expertise in Onco-Anaesthesiology, currently working with AIIMS, Bhopal. Academic achievers from Classes XII and X, were recognised for their stellar performances. Sports achievers were acknowledged for their commendable feats in various competitions. Smt. Bhaskar Valli, Head of the Science Department, received accolades for her leadership and environmental initiatives, underscoring the school’s commitment to holistic education and sustainability.

Workshop on ‘Launch of Climate Skills: Seeds For Transition India’

The British Council organised the ‘Launch of Climate Skills: Seeds for Transition India’ workshop on Thursday, 11 July 2024. Attended by Smt. Uzma Aamir TGT Science and Smt. Seema Nagpal PGT Science, from SPS MV, it began with Soumik Dutta’s video ‘Songs of Earth’. The event included a launch, a panel discussion on youth in sustainable growth, and key takeaways like UK-India climate projects, HSBC’s funding plans, and British Council’s role in promoting sustainable practices. Emphasis was on integrating climate skills in education and involving youth in policy making. It concluded with a tree-planting ceremony and an award for Krishang Gupta’s video on renewable energy.

‘Kids for Tigers’ Workshop

On Thursday, 25 July 2024, a workshop on ‘Wildlife Conservation’, was organised by ‘Kids for Tigers’ for the students of Class VI and the Eco Club of SPS MV. Mr. Kabir Dev Mittra, the resource person of the day is a passionate environment enthusiast and tiger ambassador. He emphasised the critical importance of preserving biodiversity, focusing particularly on tigers due to their position at the top of the food chain. He highlighted how the survival of tigers is crucial for maintaining the balance of ecosystems.

During the session, students were introduced to various animals of the Indian subcontinent, learning about their unique habitats and adaptations. The workshop was highly interactive, with students eagerly participating in discussions and activities. Mr. Mittra also shared his experiences and insights from working with wildlife, making the session engaging and relatable.

Achievement-Tata Building India School Essay Competition 2024

On Tuesday, July 29, 2024, SPS MV hosted the ‘Tata Building India School Essay Competition 2024’, offering students a platform to share their perspectives on “The Role of Youth in Building a Smart India” and hone their writing skills. The event saw active participation from students of Classes VI to XII, divided into two categories. Following a briefing session, students penned their essays, which were judged on content, creativity, and writing skills. The competition culminated in the announcement of three winners in each category, making it a resounding success.

Orientation Programme- National Academy of Direct Taxes

The National Academy of Direct Taxes in collaboration with Salwan Education Trust organised an orientation programme, ‘Desh aur Hum- 3.0’ on Tuesday, 16 July 2024, at SPS MV. The programme witnessed participation of teachers and students from schools in East Delhi, joining in person and many schools from across the country, connecting virtually.

The event began with an inspiring address by Shri Sushil Dutt Salwan, Chairman, Salwan Education Trust, discussing the crucial role of taxes in providing revenue for governments to fund public services, infrastructure, and social programmes. He encouraged students to actively participate in the online competitions of Desh Aur Hum 3.0. He stressed that such competitions not only lead to personal growth but also raise awareness about the role of each individual in the nation’s development. 

Shri Mahesh Shah, IRS, Principal Additional Director General, NADT in his keynote address praised the students for their innovative minds, emphasising their role as ambassadors in spreading awareness about the significance of taxes in nation building. Information pertaining to inter-school competitions, such as event formats, activities, timelines, registration processes, and all other essential details, were disseminated.

Cultivating Future Innovators

THE MCOP5 CHALLENGE-WWF: Cultivating Future Innovators

World Wildlife Fund and Model Conference of Parties organised a two-day online workshop on Thursday and Friday, 04-05 July 2024, to promote biodiversity conservation. Five students from classes VIII and IX participated in the event. Day 1 focused on the ’30×30′ target, aiming to protect 30% of Earth’s ecosystems by 2030, covering topics like ecosystem services, climate links, and international agreements. Day 2 featured sessions by Women4biodiversity on the impact of biodiversity changes on indigenous communities and women, discussions on biodiversity, resort planning, business strategies, and conservation efforts, including Assam’s ‘Stork Sister’ and Hargila stork protection. The workshop concluded with interactive activities.   

Workshop- Talk on ‘Yoga, Your Health, Your Choice’

On Tuesday, 30 July 2024, the Science Department at SPS MV, in collaboration with AIIMS, organized an insightful talk by Dr. Reema Dada from AIIMS on the topic “Yoga, Your Health, Your Choice” for students of classes IX to XII in the school premises. Dr. Dada emphasized the significant role of lifestyle choices in determining our health. She explained that while family history and genetics play a role in disease risk, our environment and lifestyle choices, such as diet, social interactions, and thoughts, can modulate the epigenome, influencing gene expression.

Highlighting the dynamic nature of the epigenome, Dr. Dada discussed how yoga serves as a powerful intervention. She explained that yoga positively impacts both the mitochondrial and nuclear genome, promoting overall well-being. The session shed light on the rise of lifestyle diseases such as depression, cancer, and male and female infertility due to poor choices and environmental pollutants, and how incorporating yoga can mitigate these effects.

The talk concluded with an engaging Q&A session, inspiring students to adopt healthier lifestyles through yoga.

Columban Open Quiz

 The students of classes IX-X at SPS MV participated in the Columban Open Quiz on July 26, 2024, hosted by  St. Columba’s School. This significant event, conducted by the esteemed Quiz Master Major Chandrakant Nair, offered a valuable platform for students to test their knowledge and broaden their horizons. Around 102 teams from various schools across the Delhi NCR region participated in the event. The quiz challenged participants with diverse questions, encouraging critical thinking and a deeper awareness of the world around them. Students displayed enthusiasm and competitive spirit throughout the event. At the conclusion of the quiz, all participating students received certificates of participation, acknowledging their efforts and commitment to learning. 

National Day of France Celebrations

On Friday, 12 July 2024 students of classes VII-VIII at SPS MV celebrated ‘French National Day’ with great enthusiasm. Students watched a movie highlighting the significance of France’s National Day, followed by making beautiful cards, to commemorate the occasion. A quiz assessment was conducted to enhance their understanding and knowledge of the event. Overall, it was an enriching experience for the students, combining education with creativity, leading to a deeper appreciation of the French culture and history.

Workshop on ‘Transformative Teaching in Career Education’

The workshop themed ‘Transformative Teaching in Career Education,’ organised by IC3 Institute and CBSE on Wednesday, 10 July 2024, gathered educators to discuss integrating career readiness into the CBSE curriculum. Ms Krithika Balaji, Assistant Director for Academics at IC3 Institute, highlighted the role of teachers in shaping futures beyond academics. Ms Niti Shankar Sharma, Deputy Secretary for Media and PR at CBSE, emphasised the need for structured career guidance. Speakers, including Shri Manoj K Srivastava, Director for Training, CBSE and Dr. Ram Shanker, Director Regional Office and CoE Dubai, underscored the importance of career counselling, aptitude assessment, and holistic development. Shri Ganesh Kohli proposed embedding counselling into classroom learning, extracurricular activities, and shifting student identity. Panelists Ms. Poonam Borah, Ms. Upasana Kinra, and Ms. Rupa Chakraborty shared insights on practical career education strategies, the evolving work landscape, and the role of parents. The session included interactive Question & Answer session and concluded by highlighting the need for integrating career education into the CBSE curriculum to prepare students for future careers and holistic development.

The workshop encapsulated the collaborative efforts to empower educators and enhance student success through transformative teaching in career education. Workshop-Strengthening Your Inner Well-Being: ‘Each Mind Matters’

An in-house workshop for Children with Special Needs (CWSN) was organised by the Counselling and Special Needs Department of SPS MV on Monday, 23 July 2024. Focusing on inner well-being and emotional health, the workshop offered tips for emotional wellness, such as keeping realistic expectations, surrounding oneself with positive people, practising self-care, and seeking help when needed. The benefits of mindful activities, meditation, and physical activities were also highlighted. Students were encouraged to seek help from the school Counsellor and Special Educator, with contact details provided. The interactive session received positive feedback, indicating its success and impact.

Orientation Session on Launch of ‘The Digital Educator’ Online Course

An online orientation session on ‘Launch of The Digital Educator’ was organised by CBSE in collaboration with UNESCO’s Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) on Wednesday, 24 July 2024. Ms. Manvi Shukla, TGT Social science and Smt. Anjali Saini, PRT from SPS MV attended the session.

CBSE has developed an interactive innovative digital course that is centred around themes that ensure the achievement of SDG 4.7: Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship. The course introduces teachers to digital pedagogies that combine pedagogy with technology to deliver learning experiences. The course seeks to inspire and enable teachers to leverage new-age technology to allow teachers to effectively integrate technology into their classrooms. Spread over 15 hours, the course will help educators navigate around various digital platforms such as Padlet, Mentimeter, Geogebra, etc. and understand individual learners’ needs.

Achievement-Top National Ranking

As per the Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) School Ranking, Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar has been ranked amongst the top 10 schools in India.  The school has been placed at the 9th position in Academic Performance in India. This recognition underscores the school’s commitment to educational excellence. The ranking has been based on various parameters about the school’s functioning and infrastructure. Interschool Shooting Championship

Achievement-27th Delhi State Interschool Shooting Championship And The 39th Delhi State Shooting Championship

 Heeya Makhijani of Class VIII showcased her exceptional talent in shooting by participating in the 27th Delhi State Interschool Shooting Championship and the 39th Delhi State Shooting Championship, both held on July 2, 2024. Competing against numerous skilled participants, Heeya demonstrated remarkable precision and focus, securing the 7th rank in both prestigious championships. Her impressive performance highlights her dedication and skill in the sport, making her a promising young athlete in the shooting arena.

Moot Court Competition

Two students of Class XI from SPS MV represented the school in ‘Talent Fair-Emblazon’, featuring a Moot Court competition hosted by Queen Mary’s School, Model Town on 26 July 2024. The students were engaged in a simulated legal dispute centering around the pressing issue of pollution in Delhi. The courtroom setup was meticulously organized, reflecting real-life legal proceedings and offering participants an authentic experience.

The SPS MV team delivered a compelling argument highlighting the severe impact of Delhi’s pollution on public health and the environment. Despite their commendable performance, which advanced them to the semi-final round, they did not proceed to the final stages.

This experience was instrumental in enhancing their public speaking and critical thinking skills, providing them with a practical understanding of legal processes.
