Art Workshop – Rashtrapati Bhavan

 A group of forty students from Salwan Public School, Rajendra Nagar from classes VIII, IX, and XI, along with the teachers Mr. Arup Biswas and Mr. Rohit Kamal had the opportunity to attend an Art Workshop at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on February 22nd, 2024.

The students participated in workshops led by renowned artists Ms. Kavita Nayar, Mr. Manish Kumar, and Mr. Pratap Mahapatra. The students learned about Mono Print and Watercolour painting techniques. They also had the unique chance to explore the Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum wherein they were captivated by the displayed artefacts. It was a rewarding and enriching experience for both students and teachers alike.

Dharohar - A Soulful Ode to Nature

A spectacular class presentation by the students of class VIII, “Dharohar – A Soulful Ode to Nature,” showcasing the school’s commitment to environmental stewardship was held on 16 January 2023 in the school grounds. The event was presided by illustrious alumni; Ms Tanya Goswami, a dedicated Cultural Heritage professional; Ms. Kreeti, a dynamic business leader; and Mr. Sahil Mehta, a renowned actor. Adding to the honor, Ms. Lynne Moten, from Seymour College, Australia also graced the occasion as a special guest.

The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the illumination of knowledge and inspiration. At the heart of the event was the presentation titled “Dharohar,” where students seamlessly merged art and advocacy to address climate change. The musical extravaganza featured energetic dances and soulful performances, delivering a powerful message of environmental conservation. Noteworthy achievers from both scholastic and co-scholastic domains were also felicitated during the event.

Principal Ms. Priyanka Barara, emphasizing the significance of the occasion, encouraged everyone to act responsibly and contribute to the conservation of Mother Earth. Vice Principal Ms. Jyotsna Grover expressed heartfelt gratitude in her vote of thanks, acknowledging the collective effort that brought the event to life. The event concluded with a passionate call to action, urging everyone to become architects of positive change for a greener future.

Udgam: The Beginning

Preserving the Past, Shaping the Future

The students of Class VI showcased their insightful class presentation ‘Udgam: The Beginning’ on 7th February 2024. This presentation showcased a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of India and the country’s indigenous communities. Dressed in colourful attire, the energetic students of class VI mesmerised everyone present with their creative displays.

Mr. Trideep Roy, Managing Director- India Public Sector at Cisco, Alumnus (Batch 1988), graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. In his address, Mr. Roy highlighted India’s progress and the abundance of opportunities available in the country today and the vast potential that lies within India’s diverse cultural landscape.

The noteworthy achievers in various Inter-school and DOE competitions were felicitated with medals and certificates. The highlight of the event was a captivating theatrical presentation that depicted myriad cultures and traditions of the tribes of India in the form of a Republic Day Parade. From the traditions of the Khasi tribe to the folklore of the Bheel community, every aspect of tribal life was meticulously explored and presented by the young students.

The event was appreciated by everyone for the hard work and dedication of the students, teachers, and organisers involved.

Report of Class VII Presentation- ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’

The students of Class VII showcased a captivating performance on the theme ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ on January 25, 2024, highlighting the belief that ‘The World is One Family’. The event marked the 75th Republic Day of India and featured esteemed alumni, Dr Shahzaadi Malhotra, a Clinical Psychologist; Ms Ramneek Majithia, Strategy and Innovation Consultant and Ms Omlata Singh, a distinguished MC member and former Principal, Rana Pratap Sindhi Sarvodaya Vidyalaya.

The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp, welcoming the parents and the distinguished guests to the grand celebrations. The highlight was a theatrical performance portraying the concept of global unity, with statues representing different countries emphasising cultural pride.

This theatrical presentation also included some mesmerising dance performances showcasing the cultural distinctiveness of various continents and countries. It culminated with a musical rendition that resonated with the sentiment of harmony bringing all these nations together with an intention of promoting solidarity.

Ms Priyanka Barara, Principal, emphasised the significance of the class presentations, highlighting how this proves to be a platform for students to showcase their talents, foster creativity and instil a sense of confidence. In his address, Major General Sanjeev Shukla, School Director, addressed the critical issue of traffic safety and also urged everyone to adopt sustainable practices.  Vice Principal, Ms Jyotsna Grover, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the parents for their unwavering support and encouragement. She also appreciated teachers and students for their tireless efforts in making the event a success.

Achievements of students in academic and co-curricular competitions were acknowledged with trophies and certificates. Overall, the event was a vibrant celebration of diversity. The presentation encapsulated the essence of interconnectedness and underscored the idea that our global community is bound by a common thread of humanity.

Community Outreach - Nurturing the Values of Caring and Sharing

To instil the valuable lessons of compassion, generosity, and the power of collective action, the school conducted a Donation Drive on the 22nd and 29th of December 2023. The students visited Holy Heart Special School, Flag Children Home, Guru Nanak Sukh Shaala, and the Second Inning Home. They interacted with the children and the elders, sharing the proceeds.

The collection comprised of food items, stationery, ration items, toiletries, etc., donated by students and their families. The Donation Drive was highly appreciated,  not only for the tangible donations collected but also in terms of the valuable lessons imparted to the students about the concept of caring and sharing.

Accolades at IISF: 2023

Navya Sharma of Class XII played a pivotal role at the Students’ Science Village during The India International Science Festival (IISF:2023). The event, a vibrant showcase of Bharat’s scientific and technological prowess was organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Earth Sciences, from 17 to 20 January, 2024.

Invited as an expert, Navya actively contributed to fostering critical thinking, engaging students from across the nation in an interactive and enjoyable exploration of science.

Furthermore, Dr. Shilpa Raghuvanshi Chauhan,  PGT Biotechnology faculty member, garnered accolades in the national workshop. Her innovative pedagogy and significant contributions to science education were acknowledged, marking a testament to the excellence in teaching and dedication to advancing scientific knowledge within our school.

IRIS National Fair : 2023

Navya Sharma, a Class XII student, showcased remarkable ingenuity at the prestigious Initiative for Research and Innovation in STEM (IRIS) National Fair: 2023. Supported by Broadcom and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, this event stands as the country’s largest research-based science fair, dedicated to fostering STEM research among young innovators.

Amidst the rigorous selection process, which involved multiple rounds of judgment by a distinguished panel of over 30 judges, Navya Sharma’s project, “Socks Pairing Device For Visually Impaired,” emerged as one of the top 100 projects nationwide. Under the mentorship of Dr. Shilpa Raghuvanshi Chauhan, Navya’s outstanding work in the “Robotics And Intelligent Machine” category earned her the coveted title of a finalist.

The pinnacle of her achievement came when Navya was honoured with the prestigious “Public Choice Project 2024” award. This recognition was bestowed upon her by the Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Science & Technology, Department of Science & Technology. Navya Sharma’s success not only highlights her individual brilliance but also underscores the significance of IRIS as a crucial platform for showcasing groundbreaking STEM projects in India.

An Enriching Excursion to Pratapgarh Farms

A delightful excursion to Pratapgarh Farms, Jhajjar, was organised for the students of classes VI-IX on 27 and 28 December  2023. The  event was filled with enriching experiences, creating lasting memories for the participants. The students relished delectable food and refreshing beverages, fostering a sense of camaraderie among them.

The trip provided a unique opportunity for students to immerse themselves in traditional village life, featuring folk music, dance, and traditional handicrafts by skilled artisans. Students enthusiastically participated in  adventure activities, bullock cart rides, archery, burma bridge, tug of war, and DJ sessions. The excursion not only offered a break from routine but also enriched the students’ cultural exposure and appreciation for traditional practices.
